Object: What is your favorite kind of jam?
My favorite is freezer jam, raspberry. I have a whole freezer full of
it that is just sitting there though. I also like peach or apricot
jam, or mixed together.

Oooh, now *that* sounds yummy! I don't think I've ever seen that.
Again, I wonder if it comes sugar free. Another one I'll have to look
for.

What is freezer jam? I'm wondering if this is a cultural thing that I'm
messing up. Here in Australia we call what Americans call Jello, Jelly,
and we call what Americans call Jelly, Jam.
Are we talking about the same thing?
If so, my favourite type of jam is strawberry, without a doubt.
Raspberry only if there's no strawberry. But strawberry is my favourite
flavour in just about everything.

American jam is made with fruit, has bits and pieces in it. American
jelly is made from juice, it's clear. American Jello is made from
dead cows and things.
Freezer jam isn't cooked to the same extent as regular jam, it is
meant to be stored cold so it doesn't spoil. there is a story at

I think we're talking about the same type of Jam then. That dead cow
flavoured Jello doesn't sound too appetising.
We don't have freezer jam here, only the regular stuff in jars. If i
had any talent in the kitchen I'd have a go at making some.

They add sugar and flavorings to hide the real taste.

Oh gosh, freezer jam is *yummy*! It's so much fresher tasting that
regular jam, though it's really sweet. Jam is what you spread on
bread or toast or a bagel, if that clarifies it at all. It's really
easy to make too as long as you can get Pectin there. Here's a site
with the recipe....
http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Freezer-Jam/Detail.aspx
I've had it in blackberry, strawberry, and peach as well. They're all
good. It really is the best jam, jelly, or preserves I've ever had.
Wow, so strawberry is your favorite flavor in almost
everything....what all does that include? Ice cream and yogurt
perhaps, but anything else?

Here, jam has fruit pieces in it, while jelly is strained and
usually translucent. That's my understanding of it, anyway.
Jello is a brand name of (mostly artificial) fruit-flavored
gelatins.

Oh dear. I didn't think anyone else would ask! I did something sort of
embarrassing the other day. While I was out by myself the other day my
blood sugar went too low and I found I had forgotten to bring a candy bar in
my purse. I went to a store and got juice and made it home okay.
When I got home I was all freaked out and crying and feeling scared, so I
talked to BTT because he always makes me feel better and is calm and
sensible when I am ridiculous. He had me drink some more juice because he
could tell I wasn't really normal yet, and then when I got back to normal I
realised I had two grocery bags of things I didn't remember buying when I
was disoriented at the store. The contents of these bags were a mystery to
me. I never eat jam, but there were two jars of jam in there, along with a
large container of ridiculously expensive peach and mango scones. Also the
biggest bag of hazelnuts I have ever seen. I must have just opened the bin
at the store and dumped half the contents into that bag.
So mystery jam is what you put in your bag when you are in a fugue state
that you discover later at home, and feel really, really, really, really
stupid about.

Apparently currant farming was banned in the US in the early 1900s
only to be lifted in some states after the 1960s and so the fruit has
yet to attain it's former popularity. So says wikipedia.

Why, Ty? Is blackberry harder to come by where you are?
The himalayan blackberries are endemic around here, you have to fight them
back to keep them from taking over. It used to be funny to see the chickens
when the blackberry vines hung over in their yard and the berries ripened.
They would jump straight up in the air trying to pluck them with their
beaks. Jumping chickens look really comical.
