What prompted my poll |
x-no-archive: yes
I have been struggling with my weight now for so many years it's
becoming a huge stress out for me.
So I was doing some research on the web and came across this site:
www.radiantrecovery.com
The person who created this site talks about sugar and it's affects on
our moods and such.
I have been thinking about doing the programme but was still not
convinced (and I am still not 100%), so I thought I would do a little
poll of my own and see how many of us who have depression, struggle
with cravings of sugar and the like.
It's all very interesting and if half of what she promises is true, it
would be well worth my time and effort to give it a go.
I have ordered 3 books from the library to peruse, and I intend to go
see my G.P. in the near future to discuss it with her too.
It is not a fast fix, in fact I can see it taking me quite some time,
but that's okay. I mean, I know that I can lose weight. I've done that
time and time again, only to put it all back on again. I would like a
programme that I can live with. Something that I can do every day that
doesn't have me gasping after sweets after every meal. So this means,
that living without sweets would have to have a huge payoff for this
girl. Not only weight loss if you know what I mean.
So, there you have it. :)
Best,

it doesn't look like she's advocating anything terribly extreme (just
looking at her list of recipes, anyway).

Getting off sugar and white flour products is the best thing you can do for

Looks alright doesn't it? Although the practise seems to be quite hard
for me at the moment. I tried reading the low-carb group, but I don't
think it's quite the same thing.

no, not even close. She's allowing far more carbs in her individual
recipes than the low-carb people would have in a whole day!

nod. ya know, any diet change at all is difficult to do and keep up
with. Whether it's lowering fat or carbs or quantity or
what-have-you. So don't be too hard on yourself.

Best,
I have always known that sugar is a high contributor to depression, but I
love my sweets and especially now I have quit smoking.. 6 weeks gone and
still off the smokes. I didnt mention it before, because every other time I
have quit and done a big boast, I have usually brought myself undone and
gone back to smoking. But this time. I vow I will never smoke again!!!
Trouble with that is I keep on chewing and putting on more and more weight.

Wow Lee! Well done :) I know how you feel not wanting to jinx anything
at this early stage, but you have done so well.
This is one thing that I am aiming for this year as well, but I wanted
to drop some weight before I tackled it.
Trouble with that is I keep on chewing and putting on more and more weight.
At first they say that this happens, but within a year or a little
over, your weight will stabilise and you will go back to eating
normally. (this is what I have read any way)
I wish you all the very best. It is such a hard thing to do.

I've actually been wondering for some time if a low-carb or at least
low-sugar diet might not be the right "antidepressant" for me. Tried one
for a while but dammit, had a hard time with the "no alcohol" part. I
plan on giving it another shot (roffle*3) in the near future.

Well good luck with it RGB. At the moment I'm struggling like all hell
with the one I am trying and my depression is getting worse! Perhaps
it's because of the change more than anything else. I'm not sure. Let
me know how you go eh?

Yup, will do, assuming I can ever bring myself to get back on it.
