When I was 20 I didn't think I had a life ahead of me. I'll
be 51 in less than a month, and I still don't see a life ahead.
But, here I am. Why? dunno. It could be a terrible mistake,
a malfunction in the system, or just another failure on my
part; but I'm here. I've "succeeded" at surviving myself
so far, but I'd sure like to get passed that and every once
in a while feel like I'm living instead of surviving. My
survival and my depression are habits of a lifetime.
Still, when I was 20 I could barely leave my apartment.
I slept with an ice pick in my hand and barricaded the
door every night. I've come a long way on my own. But
if I looked for a meaning, some worthiness in my life,
in myself, well...
I don't know if it's possible for me to see anything like
that. I "feel" meaningful and worthy when one of my cats
snuggles up, buries his face in my chest, grabs hold
of me with his paws and purrs in total contentment.
But nothing I do or have ever done, or am likely to do,
actually means anything or is worth anything. Not to
me so far; and I'm the only true gauge for my life after
all. I laugh a lot. Almost always have. Most of the time I
don't cry.
I have no energy. I miss manic.

I never looked that far in advance. I used to think about the millenium
celebration and what it's be like. As always, it was very much
anticlimactic for me.

When I was 20 years old, I was the single parent of 18 month old, Stephanie
Lynn, had just left an abusive husband, he had broke my eardrum and moved in
w/my Mom to get on my feet
then applied for Cooking school and got accepted
was a rough time but I thought I had know where put up to go
also I loved my daughter and was so amazed to see her grow
