Why Bush is an idiot. |
x-no-archive: yes
He's living in a frickin dream world. He's imposing what he wants the
world to be, rather than dealing with it as it really is. Where the
people with Bush haters get it wrong is that his vision isn't evil. He
truly wants to see peaceful democracies in the rest of the world.
Where Bush gets it wrong is that the problem is not one of government
but of societies. The Islamic world needs a deep, fundamental systemic
change. Until then, we can help them set up a democracy, but they are
going to turn around and elect groups like Hamas. Right now, the
Palestinians and Muslims around the world are going nuts over the
drawings of Muhammed recently published in European newspapers. Some
quotes:
"Whoever defames our prophet should be executed," said Ismail Hassan,
37, a tailor who marched through the pouring rain along with hundreds of
others in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
"Bin Laden our beloved, Denmark must be blown up," protesters in
Ramallah chanted.
"If they want a war of religions, we are ready," Hassan Sharaf, an imam
in Nablus, said in his sermon.
About 800 people protested in Islamabad, chanting "Death to Denmark" and
"Death to France."
In London, hundreds of demonstrators converged on Denmark's Embassy and
burned the Danish flag. Women wearing headscarves chanted and held
banners proclaiming: "Kill the one who insults the Prophet."
Bush's project is doomed. Until the stranglehold of Islam is lifted
from these societies, it's going to be a bloody and ugly 21st Century.
No, I don't tolerate an intolerant religion. I don't care if they have
brown skin or if they are poor. That doesn't justify calling for
someone's head to be chopped off because they print something that
offends you, even something that deeply offends you. I dunno, I think
cutting someone's head off is just a tad bit more offensive than a
stupid cartoon. But I'm weird like that.
Meanwhile, of course, these idiots have no problem portraying Muhammed,
against their own stated wishes!!! And the West is going to coddle and
cave into these people, even though they do that which they are
protesting against. I'm still waiting for an apology for the Al Queda
training tapes where their shooting targets have crosses painted on
them, or for the anti-Jewish blood libel cartoons that would make Marty
proud.

They have no separation of church and state.
Their religious leaders are political leaders as well.
Furthermore, they have no separation of
church and state. The only way to get education
in these muslimic countries is in Quran schools.

You're simply showing your racist ignorance.
"They" are 2 billion people who have a variety of governments and who
can live in places as far awar from each other as Morocco and Malaysia.
Saddam's IRaq was totally secular, as is Turkey. Bangladesh, Turkey and
Pakistan have (had) female heads of state with no religious
qualification -- and neither do the heads of state in Malaysia and
Indonesia (which is the largest muslim country on the planet) So go
read a book first before giving opinions that you pick up here and
there.
Furthermore, they have no separation of
church and state. The only way to get education

Really? Gee, that would be a surprise to all the university students
in, say, Iran. In fact, percentage-wise, there are more Iranian female
engineers and doctors than in the US, incidentally.
THis is what the Economist said about Iran in 1997, for example,
"Against these huge disadvantages, the republic's credits are
respectable. Most of Iran's discontented young are better off than
their fathers were, and their mothers too. ...
The young have a better chance of getting educated (never mind for the
moment the quality of that education). Above all, prospects for girls
have improved. ... They are now
more likely to go to school and stay there; about 40% (**today its over
60**) of the students
in higher education are women, and they are doing better at their
studies than men. Iranian women nowadays, despite Islamic customs
oppressively enforced by the state, have more chance than they did of
getting a job outside the home, competing with men professionally and
asserting their rights as individuals in the face of their fathers',
brothers' or husbands' prejudices."
FROM- "The Mullah's Balance Sheet", The Economist, 18 January 1997
Survey
of Iran
Its like the Kansas education board which has
been good for many jokes throughout the last years.
Only magnitudes of order worse.
Oh and this comes from your expert understanding of Islam and
widespread cultural interaction, right? Bahahahahahaha!

He made an empirical claim that is either true or false or partially
true & partially false. How does that make him a racist?
Also, Sharia law is an integral part of the religion. For example, in
civil suits, when awarded tort damages, Christians and Jews get 50% of
what a Muslim would get, and the polytheists like Hindus get 10% of what
a Muslim would get. In Saudia Arabia, it's against the law to convert
out of Islam. Women convicted of adultery are stoned to death. These
are Sharia-influenced policies. I dunno, doesn't sound very democratic
to me.
To the extent that Muslims can disavow policies such as these and truly
embrace democracy, including allowing people to be atheists and to draw
offensive cartoons without worrying about getting their heads chopped
off, then yeah, Islam can be compatible with democracy. If I saw a lot
more women like Irshad Manji, there wouldn't be this huge controversy.
Unfortunately, Muslims like her seem to be in the minority. In fact,
she frequently gets death threats for what she writes from so-called
religious Muslims.
Why aren't you condemning the threats of beheading over these stupid
cartoons?

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - Rage against caricatures of Islam's revered
prophet poured out across the Muslim world Saturday, with aggrieved
believers calling for executions, storming European buildings and
setting European flags afire.
Thousands of outraged Syrian demonstrators stormed the Danish and
Norwegian embassies in Damascus, setting fire to both buildings.
Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators at the
Norwegian Embassy after the Danish building was burned.
But the protesters broke through police barriers and set fire to the
second building, shouting "Allahu Akbar!" which is Arabic for "God is
great!"

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - ...Early Friday, Palestinian militants
threw a bomb at a French cultural center in Gaza City, and many
Palestinians began boycotting European goods, especially those from Denmark.
An imam at the Omari Mosque in Gaza City told 9,000 worshippers that
those behind them should have their heads cut off.
"If they want a war of religions, we are ready," Hassan Sharaf, an imam
in Nablus, said in his sermon.
About 10,000 demonstrators, including gunmen from the Islamic militant
group Hamas firing in the air, marched through Gaza City to the
Palestinian legislature, where they climbed on the roof, waving green
Hamas banners and chanting "Down, Down Denmark!"...

"Bin Laden our beloved, Denmark must be blown up," protesters in
Ramallah chanted.
"If they want a war of religions, we are ready," Hassan Sharaf, an
imam in Nablus, said in his sermon.
About 800 people protested in Islamabad, chanting "Death to Denmark"
and "Death to France."
In London, hundreds of demonstrators converged on Denmark's Embassy
and burned the Danish flag. Women wearing headscarves chanted and
held banners proclaiming: "Kill the one who insults the Prophet."
Bush's project is doomed. Until the stranglehold of Islam is lifted
from these societies, it's going to be a bloody and ugly 21st
Century. No, I don't tolerate an intolerant religion. I don't care
if they have brown skin or if they are poor. That doesn't justify
calling for someone's head to be chopped off because they print
something that offends you, even something that deeply offends you. I
dunno, I think cutting someone's head off is just a tad bit more
offensive than a stupid cartoon. But I'm weird like that.
Meanwhile, of course, these idiots have no problem portraying
Muhammed, against their own stated wishes!!! And the West is going
to coddle and cave into these people, even though they do that which
they are protesting against. I'm still waiting for an apology for
the Al Queda training tapes where their shooting targets have crosses
painted on them, or for the anti-Jewish blood libel cartoons that
would make Marty proud.

No, it's saying something different.

Agree.
Where the people with Bush haters get
it wrong is that his vision isn't evil. He
truly wants to see peaceful democracies in the rest of the world.
Disagree. I think that Bush does not know
what the word democracy means. Obviously
the man thinks that the US president (at least
as long as his name is Bush) has unlimited
extra-constitutional rights.
No, thats not democracy, thats a monarchy.
Bush does not want a democracy in the US.
Nothing surprising over here. I am glad that you
are finally beginning to see the light.

So, what happens in 2008? You think he'll refuse to leave office?

I've been saying this for a long time. You need to take your blinders
off. Thanks for responding though, I knew I could count on you. :-)

I wrote "monarchy", not "hereditary monarchy".
Bush thinks he is High King of the US, and that as High King he
does not have to comply with any US law.
This has nothing to do with the way Bush came into power.

I meant what do you think he'll do when he's constitutionally required
to leave office? My question wasn't about how he came into power, it's
what do you think will happen when it's time for him to give up the
power? I'm genuinely trying to understand your position. Do you think
he'll refuse to leave office, or do you think he'll step down as
required by the Constitution? From your statements, you seem to be
suggesting the former.

Its not Bushs choice. He does not have the actual power
to stay in the office.
Bush will support either Condi or his brother in 2008.
From your statements, you seem to be
suggesting the former.
I really don't see how you arrive at that interpretation.
