wombn had a major stroke |
x-no-archive: yes
I just got back from the hospital. She went to ER on Jan. 30. She told
me when we got up that she thought she had had a stroke that night. She
called the ask-a-nurse line, and the nurse advised going to ER, based on
the symptoms. So she went to ER. They did a cat scan, did some blood
work, found nothing, told her it was anxiety, gave her an atavan, and
sent her home after sticking her in a room & totally ignoring her for
about 4 hours.
She visited her parents that week. She went for walks, her mom said she
seemed fine. Last week, she started getting weird. She had trouble
speaking, and complained about loss of feeling in her arm and leg. We
went to her primary doctor on Monday. Doctor ordered some tests,
including an MRI. That was scheduled for April 30, I got it moved to
March 15.
The last 2 days, she's really gone downhill. Could speak less and less,
and just sat around lifeless. Everyone thought it was stress over our
work and financial situation. I mean, everyone. I came home tonight,
and she was in bed. I then heard her thump on the floor, and she was on
the floor in the hallway sobbing. I called her mom and told her I was
talking wombn to ER. Her mom told me that she thinks wombn needs a
serious evaluation by a psychiatrist.
Took her to ER around 10 pm tonight. They did a cat scan, and admitted
her to the hospital. Then around 1 am, the doctor comes in, checks her
out, and then tells me the results of the cat scan is that she has had a
major stroke, within the last week.
That's all I know right now. Supposedly tomorrow they do the MRI.

Dear Thor,
This is such terrible news and I can't imagine what you and Wombn are

posts.
I hope she has excellent care and I will pray for you both. As was said

I am so, so sorry that this is happen ing to the both of you. You don't
deserve ti. It sounds like her symptoms hadn't been taken seriously
enough by the docs, so it's a good thing you stayed on top of things.
I'll be thinking of you both. in fact, I have been thinking of wombn
this week, anyway. I wondered whetehr she'd been posting, etc. Now I
know why I hadn't seen her around (I may have overlooked any posts, I
lurk irregularly).
Anway, like I said, I'll ben thinking of the both of you. Thank you for

I'm so sorry and there are no adequate words. I've missed her being in the
group. I will keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you both
peace, patience and strength as you all go through this. I wish for a full
and quick recovery as I know that it is usually a long uphill struggle. I
know you know this but don't be afraid to ask lots and lots of questions.
If you feel something isn't right or she's not getting adequate or
aggressive enough care to question the docs and nurses. I'm so sorry this
happened. Lots of people love you both and care. My daughter walked in
after reading this and I was teary eyed, asked why and I told her. She
sends her well wishes and prayers to both of you as well. If there's
anything we can do, let us know.
Love to you both, Cindi

They should have done the MRI the first night that you took her in
but they don't do it because it cost to much,,, Makes me crazy to here
this kind of stuff. Its all about the money.imagine placing a monetary
value on human life,, they do it every day, aggghh,
.. You have to be proactive and insist on stuff, Inform yourself about
the cutting edge treatments as a place to start negotiations with your

I'm so, so, so sorry to hear about it. Please tell her we are thinking
about her.

Thanks for letting us know. I hope she's going to be okay. Please keep
us informed. My thoughts and my love go with you both.

I'm so sorry, Thor. Michael and my thoughts are with both of you. I
know that this is a totally useless thing to say, but let me know if
there's anything that I can do.

Damn. I didn't hadn't this header when I asked in the other thread. I
really hope this works out for the best.
It does sound to me like the medical professionals let her down. Though
the symptoms of a stroke can be very tricky to diagnose. But I've seen the
reactions on the faces of ER personnel when the slightest mention of
emotional problems is made. It's like an instant diagnosis of hypochondria
dawns on them and they close their minds to any other possibility.
It's as if in many people's minds a depressed person can never really be
sick. It really pisses me off. It would ***** me off even more if that
attitude had anything to do with misdiagnosing Wombn.

When I used to post regularly in this group (under a different nic),
Wombn frequently took the time to reply with thoughtful and caring
posts. I still appreciate that to this day. My best wishes to both
of you during this difficult period.
