Object: Do I really have diabetes?
My doctor says I do.... but....
I work at night. I get up at 1pm and go to bed at 5am.
Let's say, the average person eats dinner at 7pm, begins fasting, goes
to bed at 10pm, sleeps 8 hours, gets up and goes to the lab for
testing. His fasting blood sugar is around 90 (I'm not sure... is that
normal?).
Consider... he had 3 hours of activity before bed, then slept 8 hours.
I, on the other hand, eat my dinner at 3:30am, clean up the mess, go to
bed 30 right away and sleep 8 hours, get up and go for testing. My
fasting blood sugar was 115 and the doctor said I had diabetes.
I ate a large meal about 9 hours before testing.
I have a meter that was my mothers. I took it to the pharmacist who put
in a new battery and said it was alright (One Touch Ultra). When I test
before meals it's usually around 90.... after meals about 160.
I don't know that much about it all but my levels just don't seem that
bad.
I'd like to hear from people who have diabetes and have more knowledge
than I do. One reason is, a doctor told my mother she had diabetes and
treated her for years. When she changed doctors, the new one told her
she didn't have it and discontinued her treatment. She died at 85, not
from diabetes..... just from old age according to the doctor.

By current diagnosis NO you do NOT have diabetics. From what you state,
your numbers fall within the range of being "Glucose Intolerant" or as the
new word is... "Pre-Diabetic"
Suggestion, lose weight if you need to. Add exercise, at least 30mins daily
(which everyone should have) knock off the whole bag of chips and bon-bons
Follow a healthy diet one of proper complex carbs for the right energy you
need, fruits and fresh veggies, less red meat and more fish and chicken and
you should live a long healthy life.
Best of luck.

You sound a little like the girl who kept saying "but I only
did it once" while she mixes the formula and changes the
diapers.
Sorry mate, but you are a fully qualified member of this
little, but growing, club.
Whether or not you officially have diabetes, based on "after
meals about 160" from this time on you should stop
questioning the diagnosis and start finding out how to
control it.
