How to find a new doctor?
I fired my doctor.
He didn't listen to me and only gave me his minimal advice.
The Doc is 76 yo.
He never did explain every detain of my diabetes, blood tests and the
causes and what to do about it, as he wheezed in his condition.
I'm picking up a copy of my records this morning.
My advice for my Doc is to stop practicing medicine and retire!
How do you find a doctor, say, if you don't know anyone who can offer a
recommendation?

When I was searching for my current home, I asked the real estate agent if
she could recommend a GP in the area.
The agent gave me the name of her family doctor. I've been going to him for
over 20 years now. He has recommended a number of specialist to me that
practice in my area. I have been very pleased with him and all of the
specialist he has recommended to me.

What was nice about my Doc was he was in private practice. So if I called
and said "I think I broke my finger" he'd say "come on in right now and
lets have a look."
He tried to keep my un-insured costs low by not listening and not
explaining things. His scale was so inaccurate it was a joke. So it just
felt wrong from every angle.
My old clinic Doc's office manager would have said "The doc can see you
next month or go to emergency."
Parting with my Doc was a sad event. I got a copy of my complete records to
show to a new doctor, and I asked and he agreed to give me a 3 month
prescription for my blood pressure medicine which I can't live without,
during my new doctor search.
Dammit!
Best,

Well, if you don't know the doctors in your area very well, I would try
1-800-DOCTORS(1-800-362-8677). It's an excellent service. Tell them your
situation, and what you are looking for, and they can usually find what you
are looking for, and even connect you WITH the office itself.

AMA: http://www.ama-assn.org/ at the bottom there is a doctor finder.
Make sure you find one who is board-certified in internal medicine.

Make sure your doctor has hospital privileges.

Actually, many primary care doctors do not have hospital
"priviledges."
It is our collective clinical experience, that doctors without
hospital "privileges" tend to be better (and more motivated) at
keeping their patients healthier so that they don't end up in the
hospital.

The above may be true for primary care physicians. Cardiologists are
not primary care physicians.
Looking at my Blue Cross provider directory, GA state merit insurance,
you are the only cardiologist in 10 miles of Mableton (30126) that
does not list an affiliation with a hospital.
Of more than 50 doctors listed you are the only one on the list not
connected to a hospital.
For most insured folks choosing a doctor includes checking the
information your insurance company provides about training and
membership in the medical community.
I like doctors who "work and play well with others". There might be a
problem occur where more than one doctor is needed. I want a doctor
who has professional and personal relationships with his or her peers.
You continue to post dangerous information and attempt to use your
degrees to support unsupportable opinions.
Does not matter what any man's opinion of you is, God will judge you
based on what HE knows about you not what you tell HIM.
According to your philosophy I must be correct because I am hungry and
my stomach just rumbled. I only mention this because you have posted
that that is the gold standard of whether ones actions are correct.
My strength comes from the LORD, as does the lunch I will soon eat.
HE supplies all I need and HE satisfies me fully.

First, it is extremely rare for a cardiologist not to have hospital
privileges - if you end up in your hospital with a cardiac problem,
you would expect your cardiologist to be there. With the rise of
hospitalists, may be less the case with primary care, but not with
specialists.
Second, even for primary care, you want your doctor to have hospital
privileges, even courtesy privileges, because that means other doctors
have reviewed your doctor. In a pure office practice, there is NO ONE
to review that doctor.
Caveat emptor in medicine means patient beware.

She wishes you no ill will and I wish you no ill will. I am concerned

God did not make us "one size fits all" and I have never known a

The exchanges we have had on the groups have been open to all to

I question your posting of a "stalking" link.
I'd think someone who frequently informs people they are about to die
based upon disagreeing with you would not want to bring stalking into
the discussion.
You hold youself out as a man with a strong character.
I am asking that you now refrain from disclosing personal information
about my friends during our discourse.
I began these posts because I believe you are in error in some of the
Biblical views you hold.
I have stated before that becasue you present your views with your

that people would take your advice inplace of consulting a doctor in

I believe my friend whose computer I was using has responded to you
already.
Niether I nor any member of my family have been patients of yours.
I incorrectly assumed my friend's indentity would not be part of
this. I have explained to her my concerns about you. She understands
that your comments made to me in earlier posts were most likely
directed at her.

She wishes you no ill will and I wish you no ill will. I am concerned
that you are giving bad advice and information.
God did not make us "one size fits all" and I have never known a
doctor who gave blanket "for all people at all times" advice.

The exchanges we have had on the groups have been open to all to
see.
I question your posting of a "stalking" link.
I'd think someone who frequently informs people they are about to die
based upon disagreeing with you

He has within the last 24 hours told me I 'don't have much time
left' (like someone else he claims he told this who is now departed),
and that I am convicted by the Holy Spirit.
Apparently, death is what he means by being convicted by the Holy
Spirit. He's attempting to curse people.
He's evil; that's why he posts his dangerous 'medical advice'. Think
how many people he might con into suffering or dying because of his
alleged medical expertise using the wide scope of the Internet. They
ought to kick him off the newsgroups.
would not want to bring stalking into

the discussion.

You hold youself out as a man with a strong character.
I am asking that you now refrain from disclosing personal information
about my friends during our discourse.

I began these posts because I believe you are in error in some of the
Biblical views you hold.
I have stated before that becasue you present your views with your
degrees (ie not "I have an Idea" but "I have an idea, MD/PhD") I worry
that people would take your advice inplace of consulting a doctor in
person.

I continue to pray for you and know that one day you will know God's
truth.

Andy <q> is looking for a new primary care physician.

Cardiologists are not primary care physicians.

Did not write that they were.

Looking at my Blue Cross provider directory, GA state merit insurance,
you are the only cardiologist in 10 miles of Mableton (30126) that
does not list an affiliation with a hospital.

Cardiologists are not primary care physicians.

Did not write that they were.

But, the important fact is that cardiologists do have hospital
privileges.
Even if doctors have hospitalists to take care of their patients
hospitalized, cardiologists and other specialists will take care of
their own patients or at least have hospital privileges where they are
reviewed by other doctors.

Best

Vicki,
I called my local hospital and got from the main desk to the hospital nurse
supervisor who told me a nurse held class but she didn't know her schedule.
I asked if it was free and she couldn't answer. I asked what days and times
did she hold class. She didn't know. Hell, even alcoholics anonymous has
on-line published places and times for meetings.
The nurse supervisor offered to take my phone number and call me back
tomorrow. I told her "that's not acceptable" and hung up. Well maybe not at
5:00AM but aren't hospitals a 24/7 biz? And you'd think vital information
like that would be readily available.
I'll call later in the day back at that and the next closest hospital.
Not a good experience, imho.

Andy, I've found new doctors through support group contacts & workshops &
other groups. The latest podiatrist I've seen I found through my running
club. I've also from time to time asked friends or acquaintances. Many years
ago when I moved to DC I asked around at church about a dentist; I saw him
for 20+ yrs until he semi-retired & am still seeing -- and happy with -- his
successor in the practice; my mother's been happy there too.
My current internist is in the group my parents have been going to for
years; my previous one, recommended by a friend, retired a few years ago,
but I was beginning to feel like I was "outgrowing" her by then anyway (she
was, to my thinking, too non-aggressive). My endo is in the hospital
department I went to after my thyroid cancer treatment (they deal with a lot
of thyca there & have a couple of very expert endos for it & the various
docs & departments actually talk to each other about it) -- I wasn't
satisfied with my original endo & met one of the hospital ones at a thyca
workshop, went to him for a couple of years & when he left town (to go into
research I hope I never need!) I transferred over to the one he recommended
as good for both my thyca & especially for diabetes.
If I hadn't developed thyroid problems beyond the long-stan
