I initially posted this on a different thread related to Australian
issues. It occurs to me that a wider readership may find it useful. I
have no involvement of any sort with the site, but young people reading
may find some value:
For young diabetics there is a great site with associated mailing lists
at http://www.realitycheck.org.au/ . Their "about us" is:
"Reality Check is an Australian organisation of Young Adults with
Diabetes, established in 1998. It is actually the largest organisation
in Australia run entirely by people with Diabetes, all of whose
involvement is voluntary.
Reality Check is particularly active through Victoria, NSW and South
Australia but our membership is truly international. Reality Check
publishes a magazine called Yada Yada, manages a website with more than
7,000 hits every day, holds informal seminars and social events and
regularly represents the interests of its members to government, health
professional forums and the media."
I've spoken to the person who runs it, she seemed very professional (and
is a diabetic); however, as a site for younger people their majority
membership is T1.
I vaguely remember posting something (Jennifer I suspect) months ago -
then ducking out:-)
For young non-Oz diabetics reading this, note that phrase "but our
membership is truly international".
Cheers, Alan, T2 d&e, Australia.
