Site Check Please... |
I am an armature web developer trying to help a non-profit by creating and
updating their 2 web sites. Of course, I don't charge them anything.
I think I have completed the design both sites but am not confident about
their layout/design. All of the mechanics seem to work.
Would you please look at these 2 web sites and be brutally vicious in
critiquing them?
Anything 'good' about them I owe to Al and the folks at Project VII.

Thank you,

I've never heard this expression before. Does it mean that you wear armor,
or have teeth and thorns?? :-) Just curious.

Gosh Patty - you're close.
It is either a colloquial contraction of the terms "Armchair" and "Amateur"
or, heaven forbid, a typo that both my spell checker and I overlooked!
(Of course, why would the spell checker complain - it's in the dictionary.)
Really, thanks for letting me know that I've been a bit careless editing my
postings. I'll do better - I promise. :-)
Did you get a chance to look at the 2 web sites?

All they do is wireframes.

Hi Dan The first site at first impression looks quite good but a lot of what
you are trying to do is not working to well (or at all). If you are an amateur,
why are you trying to add all the dhtml? Why not just stick to a clean and
simple layout with pure html and css. The site will still convey the same
message and will be better for it (in my opinion). I like DHTML to but I am not
that good at it, so I am spending time to learn and when I have it I will use
it on my sites.

Thank you for checking the sites and for the advice.
Please let me know what is not working and on what machine/browser
combination(s)?
Thank you,
Dan H.

Hi Dan all the project seven menus are all over the place in IE6 the page is
just so messed up i do not know where to start. The site could do without these
menus and they make the site to fussy. I could not navigate the site at all. I
would go through the tuts at project 7 again and again untill you get it right.
Sorry for the bad news. Hope you work it all out.

Thank you for the feedback.
I'll go back to work - I guess I have a way to go.
I tested the sites on a Macintosh, OSX 1.2.8 in
Foxfire 1.0.5
IE 5.2
NN 7.1
Safari 1.0.3
Don't have access to a PC so your feedback is very valuable.
Thx
Dan H.

I didn't see any drop-down menus at all, just a regular list of links
(maybe you're working on it right now?..). (Safari, Mac). Then, the
links on yellow navbar are very very small, unreadable. Had to zoom text
size twice to read them.

Hi,
THey both seem a bit scattered. I think it might help to have well
defined menu, news, and content sections.
Also menu items should open up a basic page in and of themselves, not
just a blank javascript. I.e. clicking on "NAM information" should open
up a page with all the submenu items in a submenu on that page. This
fixes it for folks who don't have javascript, or who just want an
overview of a section.

Thank you Misha,
That is exactly the kind of constructive critique I was hoping for.
I'll fix the javascript issue immediately. I'll also reorganize the sites
but I'll have to give some thought about how to do it.
Thx again,
Dan H.
