Chinese Blame US for Chinese Produce Recall |
The government of China today blamed the US for the product recall of
Chinese made products that were unsafe, saying it was part of a
"protectionist" agenda. Protectionist? I had to think that one over
for a while. I guess they are saying it is the US's fault that we
want to protect ourselves. Well, I guess our "protectionist" minded
selves can get our products made elsewhere. Ha Ha Ha

Great. Now maybe you can explain to me the punchline when
the French are accused of having protectionist policies for
their wine industry.

Who made that claim with that term?
You are not aware of the proposals on wine productin by the
European Union, and the violent (sometimes literally)
reaction by the vignerons of France?
Here's one exmaple, from the Economist:
http://www.economist.com/research/articlesBySubject/displaystory.cfm?subjectid=7933600&story_id=9394119
another, more general, from Forbes:

and another, from the European Commission's web site:

Uh-oh. Don't look now. Apparently, Toys R Us is part of the
"protectionist" conspiracy, since they just now recalled crayon and
paint sets made in China over lead paint and packaging. It's all a
part of a US campaign to make China look bad with their own
manufacturing in their own country.
