Good evening....
I will try to stay within your guidelines. If I stray, please advise
and I will re-phrase.
I caught David Barton on PTL by accident Wednesday evening as I, too,
was channel surfing and heard this guy talking about the 1st Amendment
and several books he owned that were from the colonial period. After
a minute or two of listening, I was telling the TV what was wrong with
his assessment of history.
As a historian, I found his diatribe inaccurate, misleading and
insulting. What I do remember--he had some fellow writing the First
Amendment whose name sounded nothing like George Mason or James
Madison. He kept referring to the "Congress in 1781" which I suppose
was technically correct, however it was the Congress of the
Confederation, who published a bible (again technically correct), but
there were mitigating circumstances to that authorization. In other
words, he says just enough, but not the whole story to make a point.
The perfect salesman, I suppose.
I thought at first, perhaps I misunderstood or misheard, but I am
pretty sure I heard him mis-speak with regards to what the Founders
wrote and meant.
I went online to find this guy, found your website as well, read it
and thought, "good, it wasn't just me."
My apologies for going on so and I do appreciate your time.
