Lilley taps leaders for Baylor U. church-state institute
(Comtex Business Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)WACO, Texas, Mar 24, 2006 (The
Lariat, U-WIRE via COMTEX) --President John Lilley appointed new leadership
to the J.M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies this week.
Dr. Christopher Marsh, associate professor of political science and
church-state studies, was appointed to a two-year term as interim director
of the institute and chairman of the church-state studies department after
the resignation of Dr. Derek Davis.
Kentrox
Davis was the director of the institute, the chairman of the church-state
studies department and editor of the Journal of Church and State.
"The time between Dr. Davis' resignation and my appointment was a difficult
time for all the students. Many people were worried about it, but I think
now they are happy with the result and feel that things will continue on,"
Marsh said.
Davis announced his resignation before spring break, and the appointments
were made Wednesday.
"Dr. Marsh is a very good man, and I see him doing great things for church
state studies, "El Paso sophomore Paul Ryan Godfrey said. "We're sad to see
Dr. Davis go. He was a great part of the church state studies community.
It's going to be sad seeing him leave."

.. . . You can't understand a phrase such as "Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion" by syllogistic reasoning. Words
take their meaning from social as well as textual contexts, which is why "a
page of history is worth a volume of logic." New York Trust Co. v. Eisner,

That philosophy 'snipit' helped to get me, and my crew, through a good
many combat missions and far too many scary, inflight, emergencies.
It has also played a significant role in helping me to expose the
plethora of radical Christian propaganda and lies that we find at
almost every media turn.
