Local Citizen Fights Gay Agenda in His School District
by Dave Bohon
Is the politically charged agenda of homosexual activists really a threat to
traditional values in Minnesota, or are a handful of conservative-minded
alarmists raising a fuss over nothing? Gene Osterberg's story may cause
skeptics to reconsider. The Twin Cities resident's experience demonstrates
the aggressive campaign that homosexual activists are pursuing. Groups such
as OutFront Minnesota, District 202, and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight
Education Network (GLSEN) are waging a battle to normalize their dangerous
and destructive lifestyle by infiltrating our public schools.
Said Osterberg, "My experience with the Anoka-Hennepin school district has
convinced me that a very dangerous philosophy is finding its way into many
of our school classrooms. Homosexual activists who want to change our laws
to embrace and affirm the homosexual lifestyle are aggressively working in
our public schools conducting workshops, establishing homosexual clubs, and
indoctrinating students in an effort to capture the hearts and minds of our
young people."
On December 3rd 2002, Osterberg witnessed this aggressive homosexual agenda
in action when he managed to gain entrance to an Anoka-Hennepin District 11
staff workshop entitled "Understanding Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender
(GLBT) Youth and/or Families in Our School Community." The workshop was
sponsored by the district's diversity committee, and featured speakers from
OutFront Minnesota and District 202, which have been identified as
aggressive gay activist groups. Said Osterberg, "I realized at that workshop
that advocates of the gay lifestyle are using the public schools to
indoctrinate many of our teachers, who in turn are teaching our children to
embrace homosexuality as normal."
Osterberg first became aware that a problem existed when his son brought
home a copy of the student newspaper from Blain High School. In the paper
was an ad for a "Gay/Straight Alliance" - a homosexual club for high school
kids that met after school.
Then in late November of last year, he received an e-mail from the Minnesota
Family Council alerting him to the workshop in the Anoka-Hennepin district.
"I was shocked to see that two of the presenters were from District 202 (a
gay drop-in center for teens) and OutFront Minnesota, " said Osterberg. "I
was quite familiar with these organizations and their promotion of the
homosexual lifestyle.
What was so puzzling about the workshops was that in 1995, the
Anoka-Hennepin school district had adopted a policy making it clear that
homosexuality was not to be taught as a valid lifestyle, nor was district
staff to advocate for the homosexual lifestyle. Yet here was training
scheduled for the district staff which, to all appearances, would run
counter to that policy.
Osterberg called the chairman of the school board, Mike Sullivan, and
expressed his concern over that apparent conflict. Sullivan was aware of the
workshop, but he assured the concerned parent that the training would comply
with the district policy regarding homosexuality.
Unconvinced, Osterberg called the district office to see if he could attend.
After all, he reasoned, shouldn't parents know what teachers are being
taught to teach their kids? Wouldn't they want concerned parents there to
see the good materials they were going to use and to build a relationship of
openness and trust?
Apparently not, because Osterberg was promptly informed that the workshop
was full, and at the insistence of the workshop's presenters there was to be
no videotape of the training. Sensing that there were too many obstacles to
parental involvement, Osterberg left a voice message with the district's
diversity coordinator to contact him about his concerns. That coordinator
never returned the call.
While there appeared to be no way Osterberg was going to be able to breech
the heavy cloak of secrecy surrounding the workshop, he decided to go to the
training location anyway, with the hope that he might be able to get a sense
of what the Anoka-Hennepin staff was being taught by the pro-gay presenters.
Arriving with his wife Cheryl at the training session, Osterberg immediately
noticed that even though he had been told that the workshop was filled up,
the registration table contained at least ten nametags of people who had not
shown up. When he commented to the registrar about the empty seats in the
room, Osterberg was suddenly approached by Eric Moore, the diversity
coordinator who had never returned the call Osterberg had placed to him.
Reluctantly Moore agreed to allow the two parents into the workshop - but
only as observers. Recalled Osterberg, "Mr. Moore stipulated that we were
not to ask questions, make comments, or participate in any way. We were
given information from District 202 and were directed to a table to pick up
a folder of materials."
As Osterberg listened to the workshop speakers, his worst fears were
confirmed. "It soon became apparent that the speakers were blatantly
violating district policy by going ahead with their agenda of presenting
homosexuality as a normal, healthy, lifestyle option," recounted Osterberg.
"Anyone who disagreed with their line of indoctrination was labeled
'homophobic.'"
The District 202 speaker presented a model of sexuality he called "Gender
Gumby." Like the familiar cartoon character Gumby, who is bendable and
flexible, one's gender is fluid and flexible, the speaker assured his
listeners. He went on to explain that gender is divided into four parts that
are on a continuum:
.. "Biological Sex," he explained is the "plumbing" people are born with -
male or female.
.. "Gender Identity" is how one feels inside. For example, someone may have
male genitalia, but feel female inside.
.. "Gender Expression" is how one expresses gender through dress, actions,
and mannerisms.
.. "Sexual Orientation," the presenter explained, defines who one is
attracted to sexually.
Stated one of the handouts that workshop participants received, "Sexual
orientation is fluid and ranges from heterosexual to homosexual, with most
people falling somewhere in between."
A handout provided by OutFront Minnesota compared trying to re-channel
someone's same-sex attraction to forcing a left-handed child to write with
his right hand. The article declared that "it is a violation of a child's
integrity to try to change behaviors that come naturally."
Osterberg recalled that one suggested classroom activity was to have
children look up definitions of "male" and "female" in a dictionary, with
the teacher steering them toward the opinion that the definitions are
blatantly offensive and stereotypic - thereby "challenging children to
rethink their own definitions," according to the handout.
The presentations at the workshop varied in tone from instructive to
emotional. One former student shared how her family responded when she "came
out" as a lesbian and how they warned her of the spiritual consequences. The
young woman related how she found affirmation of her lifestyle from a
Champlin Park High School teacher, whom she called her "guardian angel." The
teacher obviously represented the "safe" staff whom our children our
supposed to trust. Osterberg found the testimonial deeply troubling.
One teacher from the district commented that Kindergarten is the best place
to begin instructing students on gay issues. Another teacher suggested that
the district was backward in supposedly taking a neutral stance on
homosexuality.
It was at the workshop that Osterberg learned that an organization known as
the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is the driving force
behind the aggressive agenda to see the "safe school" homosexual philosophy
implemented in K-12 public schools in Minnesota.
Commented Osterberg, "We all want our schools to be safe, but there is a
very hidden and dangerous agenda that is behind the 'safe school' facade.
Students are being directed to resources and people who are advocating very
dangerous practices and lifestyles. The word 'understanding' is often used
as a transition term to bring about ultimate acceptance of things that are
wrong and harmful to the health and well being of our kids. What is worse,
this agenda is being pursued without the knowledge of parents and even
school boards."
While the majority of Minnesota's public school teachers would never
consider such blatant homosexual indoctrination in their classrooms,
Osterberg said that he was a personal witness to the training of about 50
Anoka-Hennepin District 11 staff members "who will now go out to promote the
gay agenda in a very aggressive way in their classrooms and in their
schools."
Concluded Osterberg, "We must not allow one child to be led astray by this
dangerous misinformation. We need to alert our teachers, community members,
and especially parents to the harm of this gay propaganda and arm them with
the truth. Our children deserve better."
--
Atheism teaches that there is no God, hence no God-given rights. That
ideology coupled with a system that believed in the superiority of the state
at the expense of the individual was murderously synergistic.

From http://www.mfc.org/aboutus/presmessage.htm
Our founding fathers clearly believed our liberties and republican form of
government were rooted in the inalienable rights derived from "the laws of
nature and nature's God." For them, our system of government, our freedoms,
our culture, and our very way of life were rooted in Judeo-Christian
principles. We must restore these principles in our society.
