According to census data in the year 2000 there were 2,621,989 housing
unites in Massachusetts. This represents a 6% from 2,472,711 in 1990.
Of those housing units, 2,389,267 were located in either urbanized
areas or urban clusters, and 232,722 were located in what is
classified as a rural area.
