WASHINGTON (AP) — A group advocating the separation of church and state
said Tuesday that Pennsylvania religious leaders should be wary of a new
political organizing effort that it argues is really a push to re-elect
Republican Sen. Rick Santorum.
A campaign spokeswoman for Santorum denied the campaign was involved in
such an effort.
The Pennsylvania Pastors Network and three other groups organized a March 6
get-out-the-vote training session at Valley Forge, Pa., for pastors or
their representatives.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State provided a recording of
the training session to The New York Times for a story published Tuesday.
The story said Santorum's book "It Takes a Family" was promoted during the
session and he spoke to the group in a videotaped message.
The Internal Revenue Service prohibits political campaign activity, for or
against any candidate, by organizations such as churches that have
tax-exempt status.
"Pennsylvania pastors are being misled, and they need to be very careful,"
said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for
Separation of Church and State.

.. . . You can't understand a phrase such as "Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion" by syllogistic reasoning. Words
take their meaning from social as well as textual contexts, which is why "a
page of history is worth a volume of logic." New York Trust Co. v. Eisner,

That philosophy 'snipit' helped to get me, and my crew, through a good
many combat missions and far too many scary, inflight, emergencies.
It has also played a significant role in helping me to expose the
plethora of radical Christian propaganda and lies that we find at
almost every media turn.
