Waco police have arrested a man they say shook a small child until she
had irreparable brain damage.
The incident happened April 2 when Matthew Anderson, 51, went into his
foster daughter’s bedroom to help her dress, according to an arrest
warrant affidavit.
When the girl turned over in bed, Anderson saw a tear in her eye and
allegedly began shaking her, telling her not to cry, the affidavit said.
Anderson surrendered to police Wednesday after an arrest warrant was
issued in the case, Waco Police Department spokesman Steve Anderson said.
Anderson allegedly called an ambulance after the girl’s eyes rolled back
in her head, the affidavit stated.
The girl was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, then to Scott &
White Hospital in Temple, where she was initially on life support, Steve
Anderson said. On Monday she continued to be in a “persistent vegetative
state,” he said.
The 2-year-old girl’s infant sister also was at the family’s home near
Waco Regional Airport when the incident happened, Department of Family
and Protective Services spokesman Patrick Crimmins said.
The uninjured baby was immediately removed from the home.
Anderson and his wife, who was not at home when the alleged shaking
happened, had been foster parents since July 2005, and they had cared
for three infant foster children before taking in the sisters, Crimmins
said.
The three previous children were removed for “reasons unrelated to their
care,” he said.
The injured child was being cared for by another foster family Monday
although she must receive “daily and intense medical care,” Crimmins said.
Anderson was charged with intentional/knowing injury to a child — a
first-degree felony.
He was released from McLennan County Jail on a $10,000 bond set by
Justice of the Peace E. Jean Laster, a jail spokeswoman said.

killed at the hands of Child Protective Services.

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.
