Reviving the original post thread...as I said above...I fail to find
any opposition to this film from ANYONE I know in the Christian
circles, and the opposition the newspapers point to are lawyers and
other non-theologically trained individuals on the fringe.

Really? Then you DO know about Bill Donahue -- why have you
been pretending all along that you do not? Just testing us?

So, tell me -- and I honestly have no idea here -- Donahue, head
of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights in fact has
no theological training?

His degree of note is a PhD in SOCIOLOGY from NYU (Christian
conservative school that is and all), and His books are about laws
and politics. He holds (nor has held) NO church position.

So, how has this non-theologian and non-clergyman become the voice of
the church on this issue?

Who said that Donahue is "the voice of the church"? I at no
place said that Donahue is "the voice of the church"? Did
you say that Donahue is "the voice of the church"?

And what in the world does this have to do with
anything?

(please use the following space to reply with claims that
I have said things which I did not say. thank you):

I said the church WASN'T opposed to this film (and maintain this
view), and you used Donohue (many times in this thread, in fact) as
proof the church WAS opposed to the film.

Nope. I did not.
Tell you what: when you're intersted in debating what I actually
did say, rather than your mutant version of what I said, do drop
a note, hear?

What part of "Golden Compass is Just a Film" (the thread subject) is
offensive to you?
What part of my case that there is no collective,
Christian objection to this film do you have a problem with...

None. Nor did I ever claim otherwise.
You, on the other hand, not content with what I am saying,
must keep inventing `you claim's that you can attack.
But that's an interesting question; let's see what I actually HAVE
objected to in the course of this thread... How's about:
1) Your unsupported and unsupportable conspiracy theory that
the newspaper article was a devious ploy to increase ticket sales.
2) Your refusal to answer my asking if you thought, similarly,
that reporting on the Baptists' boycott of Disney was a plot
to increase theme-park attendence. Or if coverage if
Donahue's call for a boycott of Miller Brewing was actually
a gambit to increase beer sales.
3) Your claiming that the "evil organization in the film seems
a lot more like socialism than Christianity" -- and then
admitting that you had never actually read the source material.
4) Your implicit assumption that fiction cannot convey dangerous
truths. (unless, of course, it's Christian fiction, such as books
by C.S.Lewis)
5) Your contention that nothing of value regarding spiritual matters
may be learned from an atheist.
5) Your inability to follow up your implication that atheism
is not "separated from public schools" with a single instance
of atheism being taught in those selfsame schools.
6) And of course, as always, your preference for telling
me, incorrectly, what I just said rather than understanding
what I actually DID just say. But that's perennial, isn't
it, and not unique to this thread.
7) Your utter refusal, after being asked five (5) times by
me and at least twice by others, for evidence that the
reporter of the article under discussion "liked the film"
which he had not yet seen.

What part of my case

You have no case.

There is no collective Christian ANYTHING. There are several thousand
different Christian churches, and there isn't much that they all agree
on including whether each is entitled to call itself "Christian".
