Ken writes fiction. If you poke about google.groups, you will find
a number of his stories online.
Any good fiction writer knows that first of all, you must establish
your little fictional world, and then explore it from there.
If you construct your alternate reality well enough, the reader
will accept it, and then willingly buy into everything that follows.
And truly good writers understand that your readers will forgive
a bit of klunkiness or artifice in your initial setup, if what
follows is sufficiently involving. I mean, does anyone think
that Lear's behavior at the beginning of the play could ever
actually happen in real life?
I think we all need to understand that when Ken starts off
with "Liberals think" or "Evolution says", or "Socialism
requires" -- we need to understand that it is wrong for
us to take him to task when none of these things is actually
true in this world -- Ken is merely establishing his
fictional world at the outset, in order to tell us
another story.
