Nor I. When I was growing up in the 40s and 50s the main reason in my home
town to join the American Legion, Cooties, Elks Eagles, VFW, etc was so one
could drink on Sundays. The bars were closed on Sundays as was the state
store, and if grocery stores sold beer and winme then (I don't remember if
they did back then or not) you couldn't buy it on Sunday.
I had a uncle who was a alcoholic who was a member of the VFW. He lived in
the place on Sundays, along with others like him. In fact, their biggest
crowds were frequently on Sundays.
