Object: Schools should give kids as many short cuts as possible.
I can see physics teachers giving students a list of formulas that you
need that year. Make it as easy as possible. So kids can spend more
time learning and less time working.
Reasons to agree
1. Kids should not have to "re-invent the wheal". Lists of equations
should be encouraged.
Reasons to disagree
1. It helps kids, if they memorize some things.
Please help me brain storm more reasons to agree or disagree the ideas
on this page.

I suspect that you're a liberal arts or humanities major, and are not
familiar with the educational methods in the sciences. Memorization of some
material is necessary to a point, but the purpose of a physics class is to
teach students how to THINK, IDENTIFY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS. Those brought up
in the basket-weaving courses that pass for "education" in the lesser
studies can't seem to grasp this...

And my whole purpose wasn't to defend one position or the other. Maybe
you people with lessor degrees didn't learn to read, but I have a
position from each side represented.
But I wouldn't expect people who didn't get degrees in both Mechanical
and Electrical engineering to grasp higher concepts like reasons to
agree with each side.
Heavens, that would be complicated!

No, my degree is in Chemical Engineering - bow down to your superior... :Oo

Back to the original point.
You said, "I suspect that you're a liberal arts or humanities major,
and are not familiar with the educational methods in the sciences" when
in fact my degrees were in mechanical engineering and electrical
engineering. I could fax you my transcript or diploma's if you want,
but I don't really see what it maters.
When you said, "but the purpose of a physics class is to teach students
how to THINK, IDENTIFY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS. Those brought up in the
basket-weaving courses that pass for "education" in the lesser studies
can't seem to grasp this... ", it did not address the original
question.
When I took physics, I had teachers that would only let us have a 3x5
card with formulas on it, and the formulas had to be hand written. So
about two thirds of the class would spend 4 hours the night before the
test writing all of their equations really small on the 3 by 5 card.
I thought that was a waste of time. I hate busy work. And so I made my
post. I will post it again, because you don't seem to understand. I'll
use small words
The question is if "Schools should give kids as many short cuts as
possible." For instance should teachers give out lists of formulas, for
them to use on tests?
I was interested in both sides. I wasn't going to make a decision,
and start calling people who disagreed with me idiots that got inferior
degrees from inferior schools.
One reason that schools should give short cuts was that, "Kids should
not have to "re-invent the wheal". Lists of equations should be
encouraged." A reason to disagree was given that writing down the
formulas may memorize formulas by writing them down.
Instead of coming in and accusing me of having an inferior degree you
could have simply posted a reason to agree or disagree with the
original belief.
You never addressed whether or not teachers should give students short
cuts. Maybe this isn't an important question. Maybe it is more
important for us to all talk about how people with humanities degrees
are stupid, but that wasn't really the question.
Maybe it's great fun to talk about the fact that teachers like their
students to "THINK, IDENTIFY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS" but again, that
wasn't the question.
The question had to do with short cuts.

What is your degree in? Mine was not in basket weaving. Actually I am
an electrical engineer, you jack-*****.

I'm a Chem E (Cal Berkeley, '95), and by your semi-literate rantings, I
question your background...
