A little background: we're a private, not-for-profit Grade 6-12 school
with 699 students. We have about 800+ computers (desktops) at our
school - think of it as a computer lab in every classroom. Our
campus is completely networked with the following ratios: 1:1 in
English and Foreign Languages and 2:1 in History, Math and Science.
The computers and network is funded by the school (i.e., parents are
not paying a tech fee or paying for the computers). We recently
installed a wireless network as our faculty have switched to tablet
PCs. Now, there is a drive to switch our students to laptop PCs.
Are there any schools out there that have moved from a desktop
environment to laptops? If so why? What were some of the 'gotchas'
you encountered along the way? How did you get parents to buy into the
program (one of the options we're looking at is having parents pay for
the laptop)?
Thanks,
DMan
