Object: The James Ossuary Find Revived
I readily confess to being unresearched on the issue, but I found this
article interesting...
http://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/bswbOOossuary_fitzmyer.asp
This article says the James Ossuary ("James, son of Joseph, brother of
Jesus" inscription) may not be a fake, after all. I found it very
interesting that the IAA chose ONLY Israeli members of their analysis
team, refusing to even include the teams that had found the artifact
and originally verified it. They didn't include any of the Geological
Survey of Israel, despite the fact that they had verified it as
authentic. Also, I found it interesting that, as the article details,
many members of the IAA team that had, supposedly, declared it to be a
fake had, in fact, either concluded independently that it was
authentic or said that they couldn't be sure, one way or the other.
Yet, the IAA used all of these individuals to conclude something that
the individual members could not conclude.
This stinks of Israeli Government influence to defame and libel an
authentic find for their own ends (promote Judaism and obstruct
Christian foundation). I was already wondering if there was this kind
of coverup, with the IAA clamp down on released Dead Sea Scrolls
documents. This just adds logs to the fire.

Duh, the idea is to seek *independent* verification. If two different
groups reach the same answer, then the answer is more credible than if
one group does.

Yep - the group is collectively smarter than the individuals.

This stinks of Israeli Government influence to defame and libel an

[yawn] The Israeli government would reap income from tourism if it
were legitimate. They don't need to promote Judaism - which is not an
evangelical religion.

Sorry to offend your infinite wisdom of the inner workings of the
Israeli government, and apparently of putting you to sleep. You
should write the many trained scholars that wrote the article and tell
them how they are wrong (including some that even the IAA relied
upon).

Sorry to offend your infinite wisdom of the inner workings of the
Israeli government,

I have no infinite wisdom, about the Israeli government or anyone
else. I do have more common sense than you. I rely on God for the
infinite wisdom bit.

and apparently of putting you to sleep.

Just boring me with yet another jumped-to conclusion.

You

I didn't disagree with the scholars. I disagreed with YOU. No
scholar said "This stinks of Israeli Government influence to defame
and libel an authentic find for their own ends (promote Judaism and
obstruct Christian foundation)". A turkey said it.... Naw, that is an
insult to a noble bird - inappropriate for November. A peabrain said
it.
BTW, when the guy who "found" the thing is indicted as a serial forger
based on evidence unconnected with the ossuary (forging equipment
found in his home), the logical presumption is that the ossuary is
also fake.

Having an opinion is not mandatory.
In fact, withholding an opinion when facts are in dispute is an intelligent,
rational position.

I have no opinion on the authenticity of the Ossuary (as was probably
clear to every one else except you by now).
I am skeptical of its authenticity, meaning that the standard for my
coming to hold an opinion in favor of its authenticity is high. But I
am skeptical of most claims that something "proves" any religious
claim to be true or false.
I do have an opinion on idiots like you holding forth ignorance about
everything, and I explicitly oppose such assumptions such as the one
YOU stated without evidence - i.e. that the Israeli government would
actively seek to discredit an artifact so as to promote Judaism over
Christianity. That opinion, you should understand, is quite negative.
