The LORD of Darkness |
Since we are upon the Holy Day (Holiday) for the Druids, it's fitting
that I should recall this article from my free devotional book, Life
is Optional, for reflection and discussion....
The Lord of Darkness
Isaiah 45:7 - NCV
"I made the light and the darkness. I bring peace, and I cause
troubles. I, the Lord, do all these things."
If I talk about the "Lord of Darkness," who do you think about? It's
Satan, isn't it? You probably get a mental picture of Satan sitting
on fiery throne, issuing out commands to all evil powers on earth.
After all, isn't that the way it works? God is in charge of all the
good powers on earth, and Satan is in charge of all the evil ...
right? Daytime is God's, and nighttime is the devil's ... right? Satan
is let out to do evil on full moons and Halloween ... Right? Wrong!
Satan led a rebellion to overthrow God, and he was cast out of Heaven
(Luke 10:18). Jude 6 says that he and his demons are "reserved in
everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great
day." Notice that it says "everlasting" chains." They don't get a
day off.
In Jesus' entire time on earth, there never was a demon that Jesus met
who was more powerful than Him. They all, without exception, left the
bodies that they possessed upon the very words of Jesus, which led
some to accuse Jesus of being empowered by the "prince of the
devils." (Matthew 9:34) What this confirms is that the critics
recognized His authority over devils.
It shouldn't surprise us that Jesus would have authority over devils
on earth. One of the oldest Old Testament books that we have is the
book of Job. In that book, the devil had to go to God in order to get
permission to tempt or strike at Job (Job 2:6-7).
Jesus sent out His disciples with power over the demons. He also sent
out seventy others with similar authority. In fact, the authority
over demons was the thing that surprised the seventy about the name of
Jesus.
Don't start thinking that spiritual authority stopped with Jesus' time
on earth, though. Yes, Jesus went back to Heaven, but He left us
authority all over demons (Mark 16:17). He left us the Holy Spirit to
be in us (John 16:7). Also, He left us the gift of prayer. The God,
who said, "all power is given unto me in heaven and in
earth," (Matthew 28: 18) also said, "all things, whatsoever ye shall
ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive." (Matthew 21: 22) This
would include prayers against whatever evil we may face.
So, who is the Lord of Darkness? It is the same as the Lord of light
and life, Jesus the Christ.
A Word in Season:
"Even at the present time, the demons and other unseen powers show
that they either fear the name of Jesus as that of a Being of superior
power, or else they reverentially accept Him as their lawful ruler." -
Origen (248 AD) - Against Celsus, Book 3, Chapter 36.
The Lord of Darkness Scriptures:
Job 2:6-7
"And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save
his life. So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and
smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown."
Psalms 139:11-12
"If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be
light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night
shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to
thee."
Isaiah 45:7
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil:
I the LORD do all these things."
Matthew 9:34
"But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of
the devils."
Matthew 21:22
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye
shall receive.
Matthew 28:18
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto
me in heaven and in earth."
Mark 16:17
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they
cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues..."
Luke 10:18
"And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."
John 16:7
"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go
away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but
if I depart, I will send him unto you."
Jude 1:6
"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own
habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto
the judgment of the great day."
Confession:
I believe God created the light and the darkness. I believe that
Satan and all the demons are subject to Jesus. I believe that Jesus
left us empowered over the demons. I believe that I am safe in Jesus,
whether I am in a lighted church or a dark ally. I believe God is
God, always and everywhere.

Unable or unwilling to back up his statements that "liberals" (four of
whom he mentioned in particular) are in favor of Iran getting "nuke
power," Ken - as predicted - flits off to start another thread, this
one somehow bizarrely linking the druids (who had their own religion
that had nothing to do with Christianity) with his thoughts on Jesus
being the lord of light and darkness.
Our thanks for your predictability, Ken.

It's all a part of the hypocrisy that is liberalism, like the former

Name three former anti-nuke protesters that are now leaders of
promoting nuclear power for terrorist countries.
Ted Turner
William Baldwin
Bill Clinton (in the 60's he was an anti-nuke protester)
Here's another...Jimmy Carter.
However, common sense works just fine, if you used it. If liberals
were not opposed to nuke protesters, who was...conservatives? If
liberals don't want Iran and N Korea to have nuke power, who
does...conservatives?
Ted Turner wants Iran to have nuke power? Really?
Jimmy Carter, who studied nuclear power and reactor
design with an eye to getting into the Navy's nuclear
submarine program, was anti-nuke?
-- cary
This is a response to both of you (assuming you are two different
people). Why don't you respond to the questions above. Are you
saying it is conservatives that were anti-nuke or are currently
wanting Iran to have nuke power...no...then, who was it?
Ken, this is a very bizarre, illogical statement. You seem to be
saying, "It's not the conservatives who want Iran to have 'nuke
power,' so it must be the liberals!" But you can't back up the claim
that either conservatives OR liberals want Iran to have nuke power.
If you want to attribute something to liberals (or accuse liberals of
something), shouldn't you really be able to actually point to liberals
SAYING those things? For you to say, "Hey it's not the conservatives!"
doesn't tell anybody anything (except that you're not making any
sense).
Can you actually show us that liberals (for example, the four people
you mentioned) WANT Iran to have nuke power, and under what
circumstances? Or are you merely bearing false witness? I've been told
God doesn't like that.-

If you are referring to Samhain, the ancient Celtic celebration which

the celebration wrong. Samhain was a harvest celebration more akin to
Thanksgiving than any other modern holiday.
Satan has no relevance to Samhain, or to Halloween, except that some
Christians let their kids dress up as little devils among other
