Hi all
I have an associates in IT and have been considering pursuing a BS for
quite awhile. I've run into issues with traditional schools accepting
my credits (because it's an AAS degree). Then, I ran across WGU's
website. It's looks like a perfectly legitimate, accredited school. I
spoke with one of their counselors and found that they would accept
many of my credits, including giving me points for technical
certifications. I didn't know much about competency based instruction,
but after reading about it, decided that I would like it as an
employer. The tuition is pretty reasonable also. I work full time and
have a family, so a program like this would be great for me. I have a
few questions that I'm hoping some of you can answer regarding DL
degrees in general:
1. Does competency based instruction carry as much weight as what
everyone says with employers or is it just some fluffed-up buzz word?
2. Education is very important to me but...bottom line, how much
weight do these degrees carry with an employer? WGU doesn't look like
a Degree mill, is fully accredited. I know alot of factors play into
it (personal opinions of managers, etc.), but in general. I'd like to
eventually get into IT management and feel that a bachelor's degree is
pretty much a must for this career path.
Thanks to all
.
