"We are not the freedom from religion foundation. At Americans United we
are inclusive with both religious and non-religious members," said Leona
Balek, keynote speaker at the LWV forum — "Is Separation of Religion and
Government at Risk in America Today ... and Why Does It Matter?"
More than 100 people gathered at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc for
her remarks and a panel discussion that extended beyond two hours.
Balek is the president of the Wisconsin Chapter of Americans United for
Separation of Church and State. "We believe church-state separation is the
best policy for religions and mandated by federal and state constitutions,"
she said.
