Which book would spoil the philosophers career?

For people who have no capacity for laughter in their bones, Nietzsche's
Beyond Good and Evil might do the trick. Or alternatively Thus Spoke
Zarathustra if one does not understand Zarathustra's laughter.
BS

"Being No One" by Metzinger.
People don't like being told they are confused,
deceitful, meaningless frauds. They like their confabulated
meaning giving folk lore magic stories.

Wow...talk about a scrooge on Christmas Eve...ha.
But doesn't this mean, by your own judgement, that YOU are then confused,
deceitful, and meaningless?
And why should anyone listen to anyone deceitful? Or confused? Who has
nothing better to say than we are
meaningless?
Deeper understanding is not creating by simply 'sinking' to the depths and
eventually drowning. But...sinking to the depths and then re-emerging, able
to swim all the better.
If what you say is true, then the 'responsible' thing would be to 'help
carry the load'...to realize we are faced with a dire course to survive.
Needling those that are attempting to lead us somewhere, catcalling their
delusions/illusions as airy nothingness...while offering nothing of
substance to replace the dreams we live upon...well, that's irresponsble
IMHO.
When I ask myself why I stopped believing [when I have]...I come to realize
it is all about my own fallacies, shortcomings, my own failings. I am then
a fox without a tail...trying to convince all foxes to cut their own tails
off...to somehow raise my own significanse in the emptiness I find in my
aloneness; when the truth of the matter is my own unhappiness.
It's Christmas...and my prayers are for you guys...that happiness comes your
way. It is a good time upon the Earth relatively speaking. No major wars
are upon us; material abundance is at an all time high. We grow fat and
sassy...and though there are always problems, I try and remember times when
the planet has been at war or in depression and realize today may not last
forever. So, I try and savor NOW and be appreciative of whatever it has
been that has allowed it to be.
Anyway, there are no bad sorts on this NG. I wish you all not just a Merry
Christmas...but that perhaps also some mind and heart changing events come
your way in the coming days that might allow you to re-embrace something
more than 'confusion, deceit, and meaningless'.

I think any of you that tackle this notion completely miss the point. It's
all the confusing, deceitful and meaningless stories that we invent that
have created the environment we live in and that we whine about. Metzinger
explains how this insanity occurs.
HTH.

Was this supposed to be a retrospective? It reads like a prophecy.

It's all the confusing, deceitful and meaningless stories that we invent
that have created the environment we live in and that we whine about.
Metzinger explains how this insanity occurs.

He obviously doesn't explain why. (not that I have read him..I know you
wouldn't have missed it if he had have).
When one cell divides, a story commences, and develops on what appears to be
a chaotic journey, which sometimes *appears* to be "confusing, deceitful and
meaningless".
Appears that is , to the observer (of course).
(Our group consciousness is now aware of a connecting code.)
If you consider that "self" is actually manifested as the one cell, when it
divides, it doesn't 'lose' itself, it actually goes on a journey of
con-fusion. After a "saturated mass" of experiences (which is bound to
appear confusing as "the one" is seeing itself as many), those cells start
to undivide (let down by my vocabulary AGAIN grrrr ;-), where "self"
emerges once again, but now with vast awareness of the totality of the
journey.
The days of whine and rose thorns , dance and run away, like a child at
play.

Only a confused deceiteful fraud would tell them such tales, surely! If not,
who?

Similarly, I was thinking it would be a book that
made him stop questioning from fear of the answers.
Philosophy does seem exceptionally adaptable, though....
it can expand and evolve to accomodate most concepts
from "soup to nuts"...or from "something to nothing" :-)

Our story machine is running on language.
We might break out with some new gas.
