While I do not agree with you on a theoretical basis (i.e., I believe that
we should engage and take responsibility for the idiocy our governments and
societies perpetrate), in practice, I am very close to your views. I do
support various charities (those directed at preserving wildlife and our
environment and those aiming at feeding and housing the "drek" which our
society deliberately leaves behind). But as for me, myself, actively
engaging anything! I'm almost 80, and I say "Boycott the mother fucker.
Minimise your life NOW!"

Thank you for your support Bill. Maybe "Minimise your life NOW" should
be "Minimise your consumption NOW". Our biggest problem is that the
bullies control most essential stuff for living as well. Our mere
living is contributing to the problem for that reason. I agree with you
very much on doing positive non-consumer stuff. In fact life becomes
larger with less consumtion, paradoxially.

Now that is a modern conveyance of an old idea about 'material decadence' if
I've ever heard one. The materials of life are important of course, but
they are only 'means' to a greater end, that end being the better
intangibles found in human relationships. Happiness, fullfillment,
satisfaction...these will always be a function of those relationships, and
no amount of life's materials can ever replace them.

As far as priorities go, self is the highest priority - not the human
species, not the earth, certainly not the Yangtze dolphin. You cannot
convince people to consume less when benefits of consuming are
immediate, apparent and real for self. Thus, you are wasting

consumption or rewarding non-consumption.

Hehhe - Well this would only apply if he was to have more survival
potential than the rest of his Libertarian sheep family. If his views
were ever implemented in full, he would be the first to the slaughter

Thanks for the correction. In suitable wild conditions they may survive
but you are right, they have been distanced from their natural state
quite a bit. Unlike many domestic cats. Cats will quickly switch.

Indeed most will.
Howeverthere examples of breeds where we have managed to breed out much
of their natural instinctual beahviour. In the USA there is a cat that
you can throw around the living room and it will not try to grasp.
These fat bundles seem to have lost the cat's famous "landing on their
feet" response: they will make no attempt to move their legs. They do
not scratch, bite or make a fuss. They are basically furry tribbles.
