Demonization |
Demonization is the characterization of individuals, groups, or
political bodies as evil or subhuman for purposes of justifying and
making plausible an attack, whether in the form of character
assassination, legal action, circumscribing of political liberties, or
warfare. The purpose is to facilitate oppressive actions against the
demonized individual or group, ranging from ostracism to genocide. A
common practice in early Judaism was the demonization of rival dieties.
This would later transfer to Christianity and cause untold suffering
for innumerable pagans. Classic examples of this kind of religious
demonization include Baphomet (thought by some to be a corruption of
Mohammad) and Beelzebub. This practice was the driving force behind
such atrocities as the Spanish inquisition and the betrayal of the
Knights Templar. Conversely, Jews have historically been the subject of
demonization, arguably more often than any other group.
Demonizing an individual, group or culture generally involves a
suspension of the normal considerations of humane behaviour and
respect. Given that the subjects of demonization are portrayed as evil
and/or subhuman beyond any dispute, then any means of self-defense is
considered legitimate, in proportion to the threat represented. In
United States history, a note-worthy example of demonization is to be
found in the attitudes and practices of white Southerners - and others
- towards Black people in the period 1619-1965, epitomized in the
widespread practice of lynching.
One purpose of the demonization of individuals - as opposed to groups -
is to divert attention from their arguments, and discredit them
personally by ad hominem attacks. Proving that they are Fascists,
Communists, Racists, Religious fanatics or some other despised category
of individuals is particularly effective not only in undermining
individuals with controversial views, but in isolating them from public
support. Whereas before the attack, supporters were under the
impression that they were defending for example, free speech or
constitutional rights, afterwards they themselves risk being accused of
condoning Homophobia, or Jihadism, or some other similarly despised
viewpoint.

Demonization has religious connotations.
It's therefore highly advisable that it should be treated with intense
scepticism.

Disgust is an emotion, typically associated with things that are
perceived as unclean or inedible. In The Expression of the Emotions in
Man and Animals, Charles Darwin wrote that disgust refers to something
revolting. Primarily in relation to the sense of taste, as actually
perceived or vividly imagined; and secondarily to anything which causes
a similar feeling. Through the sense of smell, touch, and even of
eyesight. Disgust is one of the basic emotions of Robert Plutchik's
theory of emotions.
Disgust may be further subdivided into physical disgust, associated
with physical or metaphorical uncleanness, and moral disgust, a similar
feeling related to courses of action. Antonyms to disgust are sympathy
and also liking.

A phobia (from the Greek "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of
situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this
disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared
subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is
interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety
disorders can be made.

Xenophobia denotes a phobic attitude towards strangers or of the
unknown. It comes from the Greek words (xenos), meaning "foreigner,"
"stranger," and (phobos), meaning "fear." The term is typically used to
describe fear or dislike of foreigners or in general of people
different from one's self.

Psychoanalytic theory holds that unwanted thoughts and feelings can be
unconsciously projected onto another who becomes a scapegoat for one's
own problems. This concept can be extended to projection by groups. In
this case the chosen individual, or group, becomes the scapegoat for
the group's problems.

Does this include illegal immigrants, legislators who make laws that
give services to these immigrants and people who think the problems
actually are somewhere else. What about identifying with a country, is
that also not a form of personification of an even more questionable

Even the whole don't tax me on money's I earned - note a pronoun plays

This article is a piece of pseudo-think. It's purpose, interestingly
enough, seems to be to demonize by explaining demonetization.
It starts off ...
"Demonization is the characterization of individuals, groups, or
political bodies as evil ..."
The author's purpose would be better served if it started: Demonization
is the characterization by the evil demons of good individuals, groups, or
political bodies as evil..

You only get things like demonization if you use words like "God".
If you use the word "God" then it is related to words like Jesus, devil,
demons, salvation, angels, purgatory.
If you used a word like Popplewop when you prayed - your world would be very
different.
All words uttered effect atmosphere in any world, globe, matrix - wherever
it is that you live.
Words are very powerful things.
The word ***** for instance travels on a wavelength of it's own for quite
some distance in space.
If you actually look at planet earth with a wordometer - you can see all the
words emanating out. They look like small coiled springs and when they hit
some innocent passer by in a spaceship they now have the magic "Antifuck
mantra".
All aliens passing by Earth have now learnt to say
"Fucking commie *****" (or stupid commie ***** depending on the severity of
the ***** word).

That's very interesting. I didnt know that. I am enlightened.
This is why it is so important to learn how to name things.
Think how different you would be if your name was Piddlepopdoople?
We asked Mike Gordge time and time again to "name" or "call" the innocent
embryo that resulted from rape.
Time and time again he referred to the innocent unborn baby as "parasite" or
"tumour".
Words and names and calling tie up and trap entities.
(This is a thousand page thesis)
Even in the Bible when Jesus "called" his disciples - he changed the name of
one
"I will call you Peter" he said - even though this was not his real name.
You can call a crab a crab - I mean he looks just like a crab. And you can
call a hippopotamus a hippopotamus. He looks just like a hippopotamus.
But if you find pure unadulterated blameless innocence and you "name" or
call him "parasite" or "tumour" then you have judged wrongly and what would
you name or call us if you could see us?
We are not liked anywhere Don. We are monsters because we have ultimate
power and we are insane with it - we could just as easily eat you as be your
friends. We are perfect at being nice. And we are perfect at being
horrible. And the end result is you find out nothing because this is the
way we are. We hate everyone but ourselves but the atom bomb caused a
rupture in a parallel universe and we do not like to see people suffer.
We always administer pain killers immediately - in liquid form or
orodispersible form (not injection) and we do not believe in this woman's
nursy nursy bit.
Women are the terror of the Universe. They prolong suffering so they may
feel their maternal tender loving care feelings that they like so much and
they have no faith. THEY are the cause that your planes blow up with their
contagious feelings of terror and you search in vain for bombs. Even with
the first woman in space the shuttle blew up.

All in all, it's just an extension of the human mind's tendency to
think of things in terms of binarisms.
1. What I happen to like -- Good
2. Everything Else -- Evil
Out of all the possible states that could exist, we assign these labels
to whatever we can, usually some combination of utility, emotion, and
social norms. People find pleasure in categorizing things it seems --
by assigning these labels it tells us what to do while at the same time
telling us what to avoid. At least in western socities, neutrality
isn't something that's valued very highly, so it's all about picking a
side and sticking to it, regardless of its absurdity.
