Do you believe what you post? |
or do you sometimes post something that might be
true and expect other people to react and correct
your guess.

Of course. That's a primary benefit of newsgroup
posting, to test our ideas. Considering that nobody can be
objective or perfect in their reasoning, others will always
spot things that we miss. Especially beneficial is that
you can then apply rigorous argumentation to resolve
contradictions. The public venue, lack of time restrictions,
and democratic nature of newsgroups allows such
arguments to be exceptionally productive.

Are you careful about what you post though by posting
things in a sort of final draft or do you expect others to
edit and correct your carelessness? This is more of a
confession than a question, on my part ....

I am careful and do not expect others to edit and
correct my carelessness. Editing varies a lot depending
on particular circumstances, but I always at least read once
for grammar. Sometimes I'll edit several times into a "final
draft," usually because I'm a fast typist and tend to overtype.
I've found that the best way to avoid careless mistakes
is to actually read what you are replying to!

I have been guilty of posting brief statements that are truthful but
blunt. Sometimes they are interpreted, or misinterpreted due to the
reader's assumptions, in such a way as to invoke a response that I can
really sink my teeth into. I defend my position honestly when I respond
as well.
Am I a troll? Am I delusional?

Depends on your interpretation of the "truth". A lot of people defend
their points of view despite the fact that their statements contradict
themselves...then it's like whaaa

"Truth" as in I am being honest when I write it. So, if I am ever
contradicting myself in a post, I am being delusional. I'd like to
think I'm neither delutional or a troll. If I ever do contradict myself
please assume I am delusional.
Thank You.

Contradicting your self doesn't seem delusional to me, but
a necessary part of sorting things out. Almost 35 years ago
I got up in front of a large group of people who represented
their high schools in something called "The Sun Youth Forum"
for a local newspaper. I said what I believed and the next
guy got up and said that what I said didn't make sense and
contradicted myself. It was about "Right to Work". I still have
conflicting opinions about whether "Right to Work" is really a
right or union busting and if I got up and expressed my true
opinion it would still be ambiguous and contradictory.

Self contradictions are natural, and unfortunately theres really no way
to really resolve ALL of them. If anything it shows how limited and
faulty the human logical process really is. Main thing is not to take
yourself too seriously, because on a fundamental level we're all pretty
ignorant.
What we can do, though, is at least make an attempt to resolve these
contradictions at least for most practical purposes. I dunno, I see a
lot of people who seem to take comfort in self-contradictions, or just
are plain unaware of the fact that they're contradicting themselves,
and nothing they say seems to make any sense.

Mainly I go with the mindset, "well, here's what I have so far".

I consider personal integrity to be a valuable character asset.
I try not to be a jerk. Others may be more negligent.
Why do you ask?

re: why do I post
It's fun.
It's un-edited.
It's self-indulging.
It's better than telling-off somebody who could stab/shoot/beat me to
having some sense.
Do I post to provoke?
It of course always depends upon the point of the content.
For instance: I post some crape about capital punishment that I
perceive as true enough to reality, so long as I attempt to explain
why I'm not against it.
I did want to provoke anti-cap punishmenters, or at least to make 'em
understand why it's not as immoral as they duly think it is.
I cannot recall a deliberately disingenuous post; but I do like my
satire because I'm a big fan of myself, and such can be confused with
phoniness & provocation.
