Object: Faith = Cynicism
Faith is belief and cynicism disbelief beyond the evidence.
Faith cynically holds, and cynicism has faith, that any evidence
contradicting them is wrong, without need for assessment of that evidence.
Faith and cynicism are flip sides of the same coin, which is contempt for
evidence.
But skepticism rests on evidence, and moves beyond it only in hypothesis
which must be checked against evidence, whether directly, or by deduction
from evidence, or by inductive study or other experiment adding to
evidence.

# Faith is belief beyond the evidence; hunch, guess, probability, opinion -
but more. Dogma is insistence that some belief is true, brooking no
argument.
Cynicism is doubt about human values and motives. Scepticism is doubt
about beliefs.
Science progresses by Curiosity, Freethought, and Scepticism; all based on
empirical evidence.
Religion is based on desire, emotion, faith; on sacred texts,
indoctrination, fanaticism, and war.
Religion has a cosmology and taboo morality; all traditional religions are
precursors of science. The Evolution of Religion was from Naturism,
Animism, Polytheism (the peak), Monotheism, to Atheism.
In the modern world, religion is a hindrance and a curse, especially in
supernatural form. This is not to say Science should be our new religion,
but no new Philosophy which ignores Science can claim validity and morality.
A retreat to 6th century Sharia Law, for example, ignores all the moral,
legal, and political advances make since. It is a return to barbarism, from
civilization.
All Gods, gods, goddesses, are historical entities; they exist only in the
human mind, and as vague images; they originated as tribal deities, the Old
Man of the Tribe, the Lord of Hosts, who supports the tribe in battle. This
usage continues to this day, as "tribes" appeal to their Ancestral Warrior
Deity to help them in their Holy War against all outsiders - such as
Gentile, Pagan, or Infidel. Yet, when you look at these people, they seem
to be human beings, just like you and me! But we know different; they are
the Devil Incarnate, fit only to be put to the sword!

So in summary, philosophers put past or different views to the sword;
religions attempt to put other religions to the sword, and science puts the
atom to the sword.
