Object: Is Alioto Conservative? Don't Publicly Ask, Don't Publicly Tell, Don't Publoicly Discuss
The White House, perhaps fearing a "Borking" of the appointment of
Samuel Alioto, declaims/dismisses/denounces a Knight-Ridder
report/analysis of his judicial opinions.
Is this the Brer Rabbit briar patch tactic or what.
Because the USA is indeed mkore and more conservative: Ask Gore &
Kerrey.
So why be so disingenuous about Judge/Justice Alioto?
A very Republican conservative dominated Supreme Court is destined to
return America to the backward/regressive/reactionary--for instance,
abortions will eventually be up to the individual States or the
back-alley or off-shore as they were until sometime in the 1970s.
Big ripoff bidness shall be further turned-loose on the the air and
water, to screw the pensions, to dump Social Security, to dump minimum
wages, and to dump other New Deal reforms et cetera.
I wouldn't be totally surprised to see the Securities Exchange
Commission phased-out.
It's the Herbert Hoover, Cal Cooledge, Warren Harding 1920s era deja
vous all over again.
Some of ye are too young to remember how it was before abortion was
legal: Look-up "Sherry Finkbine" in a google search, and you'll get a
small sample of how repressed it had been up until Roe.
How badly can things get with a hard right Supreme Court?
With the TRILLIONS 'N TRILLIONS of indebtedness, the GOP & its Supreme
Court are seemingly going to make things more worse than they are now.

Alioto

Alito
Apparently an ole mind is recalling that
mayor's
(of San Francisco)
similar name spelling
more than today's important name in the news spelling.
Do I overdo my fear of a Supreme Court right trashing social welfare
state laws (Social Security, Fair Labor Standards, Environmental,
Health Care, et cetera)?

I'm not 100% certain he'll cave on Roe. To be sure the oligarchy or
what's left of it can either "persuade" him to change his mind --
what's a better fig leaf than stare decisis? -- or appoint another
judge. Also, since choice is popular they might want to toss the
people a bone. The oligarchy doesn't care about the majority. Why
would they care about some ignorant fundies?
On the other hand overturning Roe would help GOP strategists who would
like to go to the states with a social issue. GOP strategists might be
closet social liberals but the bottom line is the bottom line.
They'll do ANYTHING to distract the working poor from economic issues.
This may be an example of corp. sponsored social liberals milking their
culture war cow to death.
But to answer your question, the federal judiciary is robber baron all
the way.
Sooner or later trial lawyers will be looking for others forms of
income.
Why toss a bone if it isn't necessary?

re: over-turning Roe
If the expected new abortion
decision leaves it up to individual States, which States will be legal
for legal abortions?
I dunno, but will guess these:
New York
New Jersey
Wisconsin
Minnesota
California
Oregon
Washington
Maybe Lost Wages, Nevada,
will offer a parlay card on the phenomena.
If one can pick 6 States that within 5 years abortion will be legal,
then .... .
Hey, it is gonna be a helluva mess, and most things
are gonna get worse 'n worse economically, socially, and politically.
Do they have Canada Dry ginger ale in Canada? Maybe I'll findout.

It could easily go either way. I was pretty pessimistic about solar
power until I realized a reflector dish plus a closed cycle engine is
three (3) orders of magnitude cheaper than photovoltaic. Silicon is
for computer chips, not serious power.
I was pretty pessimistic about the economy until I realized the Fed was
going to inflate away the Bush deficit. Do NOT sell your house right
now. Property can only go up in price. It's good to have a
politicized Fed. Because of the GOP tax cuts the only alternative to
inflation now is the Great Depression. I prefer a little inflation.
I was pretty pessimistic about AwOL's quagmire until I realized it made
such a mockery of tough talking conflict with Muslims it caused Sharon
and other Israelis to become hippy liberaloon peaceniks.
We might even see the end of the military glory of WWII.
All these things are unintended -- predictable but unintended -- but
there is reason to hope . . . and work for progress.
Democracy is always like walking on the edge of a cliff; it will often
work if you keep your eyes open.

But why keep walking on the edge of a cliff in the first place?
