Every Fourth of July the MIM (monied interest media) media reliably
point of that Jefferson had slaves [and therefore we have moved beyond
the quaint "sovereignty of the people" and other barbaric Jeffersonian
nonsense onto something much loftier].
The fact that Jefferson did more to set things up for the eventual
abolishment of slavery than anyone else in history is always "merely
omitted" from the corp. sponsored media. The fact that Jefferson's
populism is the greatest hope for advancement for people of color is
"merely omitted" as well.
The media "merely omit" these facts like Shultzberger Sr. "merely
omitting" the Holocaust from the _New York Times_ during WWII.
They merely omit these facts because their corp. sponsors _tell_ them
to omit them.
The Jefferson had slaves scam is the biggest of all the Big Lies By
Omission.
It would be nice to be able to say the same about Al Gore and his
carbon footprint.
Sure Gore creates 100 times more CO2 than the average American. No
one including Al Gore will deny that any more than Jefferson would
deny that he had slaves.
But if Gore supporters could claim Gore helped to set things up for
the eventual abolishment of CO2 emissions, then Gore, like Jefferson,
should get a memorial on the Mall.
The problem with that theory is Gore never set anything up for the
eventual abolishment of CO2 emmissions.
Gore never had and never will have any solutions to AGW other than
everyone else except Tipper and the kids and some personal help
vacating the planet ASAP.
Moreover Jefferson was astute enough to know that freedom required
collective action, that freeing his own slaves without changing the
entire structure of Southern society wouldn't be in anyone's interest.
In sharp contrast, anyone can take purely unilateral individualist
action to reduce his carbon footprint.
Gore is a misanthrope and his "concern" about global warming is only
motivated his hatred of people. It's just one more thing the
sanctimonious jerk can use as a pretext to be preachy.

Very interesting opinion...Given your hatred for Republicans, I was
somewhat surprised at your post...
Not when you consider Gore did everything he could to save the GOP
from Bill Clinton.
Good contrast between the two...
I saw Gore on the History channel (which should be re-named to the
"Doom & Gloom" channel) talking about global warming (along with a
host of scientists, of course). So, by his notoriety, if he helps to
elevate awareness on this particular issue, does it matter what his
motivation was to do it???
Gore undermines everything he ostensibly supports. The truth behind
his base motivations always comes out, no matter how the media try to
spin it.
The Nobel committee was well intentioned but they don't understand U.
S. politics.
