Given that I've never watched either of them, and prefer to drink tea,
am I in danger of deportation?

I haven't watched a late-night talk show regularly since Steve Allen was
doing this. He was actually funny.

Didn't he also do a show in the '80s on public TV called *A Meeting of

Early 1970s. PBS is trying to sign him for a revamped series
where he'll be one of the minds but they can't quite get the
right channel.

Uh, Jim. I think Steve Allen's been dead for a number of years.. last I
saw him on TV was on HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET. He and his wife
Jayne (or Audrey?) Meadows played a couple of suicidal geezers.

Uh, Jim. I think Steve Allen's been dead for a number of years..
Well, yes and no. If he becomes a mind on "Meeting of the Minds"
he could be revived for an hour or so, if PBS can channel him
up from the underworld. (Hint, HINT.) It would be an interesting
hour with him and Jack Paar and Johnny Carson together, except
that as television, their real likenesses are still too well known
to pull off.
It might work now on stage. In San Francisco
right now, they're doing this lowbrow skit (appropriately
at the Marines Memorial Theatre in the Tenderloin) with
Frank Sinatra and the other characters from the Pack.

There's been a show on our PBS called SMART TV that was a tribute to Jack
Paar. Oscar Levant was featured quite a bit.

Haven't watched late-night TV since Letterman turned grumpy, moved to
CBS and lost Jack Paar's old director--
Dave was only *half* of the 80's-NBC genius.

Does the new novel include paragraphs, capitalization and punctuation?

re: 3rd novel unwritten
I am of that procrastinating mind, and would like to hereaby duly state
herein that my non-novel(s) is now unavailable under "not published" on
THE NEW YORK TIMES list of non-ingeniousness--does the "i" word mean
sumthin or nuthin?
Stephen Frey of two+ appearances on the OPRAH show, Jason Blair of the
NY TIMES, and Stephen Glass of THE NEW REPUBLIC aren't sending their
insincere congratulations as well.
Clifford Irving has merged with the Trust Banking Comapany into
"ClIFFORD'S IRVING TRUST & FAT FEEDS OFF THE GULLIBLE."
And take George Sand(er) bender, and take George Bush....please.
p.s. This is perhaps National Book Week: So thus take a good book to
the john after the irregularity of Varsity chili dogs, and in case it's
again out of Sears-KMART catalogs.

Years ago I read in --The American Poetry Review-- (IIRC) an interview
with some scribbler who declared that she was working on an epic.
And I thought to myself, how would she know? Or did she just look up
the term in --A Handbook to Literature-- and decide to write to the
definition?
