Summer skies are your eyes
Crater lakes are your eyes
Mixing a thousand essences
And perfectly clear.
You nourish with depth
You heal with richness
You strengthen with empathy
You dissolve all of life
And you are perfectly clear.
Each moment with you is an orchid in bloom
A flutter of butterfly wings
Each moment with you is a lapping ocean
Running through hearts and dissolving
All that the mind brings in.
A fish in the brook will swim
All his life upstream
To find you.
A stork in the sky will fly
All autumn
To be near your warmth.
Light from a star will run
For years across the void
To caress you.
I will love you
Until the end of time.
Cars get in wrecks watching you
Children stop crying around you.
I can't keep my eyes off of you
Or my thoughts from your being
Or my heart from yours.
What if my passion were incoherent
What if I dealt only gestures and motions
What if I knew no words
To tell you my love?
I would invent a new language
I would make a new country
I would start a new religion
To tell you my love.
Time disappears into a black hole
When I am around you.
Earth vanishes from beneath me
When I am around you.
Disaster can't touch me
When I am around you.
Around you, the only thing real
Is you.
Your hair is a million meteors
Raining sky fire
And lighting the earth
Your lips are streams of lava
Burning through the land
Your neck is an avalanche
Running down the mountain
Your breasts are the bosoms of Planet Earth
You are peace and war
You are time and eternity
And your eyes are crater lakes
Where I'd like to take a swim.

Being around you is a mystery
I seek each moment for a view
To smell you near, time ceases momentarily
To hear the breath, no more questions exists
Being around you, summons my own destruction
For I would would give every ounce of times sand to stay
Being around you, my heart screams "release me"
From life and sin these hands have made
Being around you, pushes me on
Through the daily hell we have sewn
To dream of a day and know of a night
That peace is ours and the end in sight
Being around you,confirms why I live
To plan a great future while we harvest the now
To know of our bliss - in this life I exist
To dream of forever, as we dream day by day
Our love is perpetual, our life is the play
I treasure each moment, that rolls on forever
Too painful I thought, but more gracious remains
To fulfill all our dreams, a sightful day we have made

Ilya Shambat, you have a beautiful name. Rather than send you to a bunch of
books about crafting poetry (which you ought to check out if you are
serious!), I would like to suggest this. Think about the special person in
your life, and then think of a particular story about a significant event,
interaction, moment with that person that would give evidence of your
feelings about that person. Write down a page of the details of that story.
What happened? What did that person say and/or do? What did you say and/or
do? Where were the two of you? What did you feel like physically? What
were you thinking? what were you feeling? What were your surroundings
like? After you have written the story, go back and fill in even more
details. Get very specific about your feelings or thoughts or observations
of the other person and yourself and the context -- love is not specific
enough. Then focus on one aspect of that story and write a poem. Avoid the
love aspect of it; it's too hard to do without something real grounding it.
What I mean is that it may be simpler to write about raking the leaves on a
crisp afternoon with your special someone and convey the deep meaning that
love brought to this typically mundane event. This is not the only way to
get at it, but it's a suggestion.

I applaud your attempt to make our dear Ilya at least semi-literate...but I
fear it's a lost cause. Perhaps he is more useful to us in his present form,
since every now and then he spawns threads resulting for instance in Rob's
priceless adaption of Shambatian poetics, elsewhere (see 'How beautiful you
are').
But hey, he is only translating. Who knows, he might be a brilliant
translator with very poor taste. Is anyone familiar with the originals in
Russian?
