Pardon my crosspost, but I think this is where the idea of a, "twilight
zone," comes from.
I wonder if Rod Serling had night terrors. Apparently, he was scared of the
dark.

Some times when I sleep, my eyes are open and I can see objests in my
line of vision, but objects of dreams are also active. I am aware of
this.
When I finally snap out of it, all the detail that I see in my line of
vision is remembered when I wake up.
Waking up is sometimes hard. Sometimes when I "think" I am awake, I find
that I am really still dreaming.
I think a lot of people do this. I have been told that is called a *hypnogogic
hallucination.*
Again, please pardon the crossposting, but I want to find out *once and for
all,* what this is.

I do this alot if I have a cold or flu with a high fever. If I take
medication, it gets worse.

Quite an interesting website...thanks.
I have been reading some of the posts on the forums, as I have weird
experiences with sleep also.
I am one who hears something like an explosion go off in my head at
times when I sleep, I also wake up vibrating sometimes. It's very
uncomfortable.
I've read that ppl who have OBE's vibrate. I have dreamed for years that
I am someone else in my dreams, which when I have asked others if they
do this, I haven't found anyone who does. I'm wondering if there's
something physically wrong with me or are these two issues related?
Not sure.

Do you mean the apparent physical sensation of a loud noise or shout when
there is obviously nothing there? I get that from time to time and it is
always very confusing. The sound is qualitatively differnt from dream
sounds and I can hear the difference clearly, often waking and going off to
hunt for the knock on the door or the person who called. It is never
connected to any dream sequence.

It has happened to me several times, the first time was probably about
10 years ago.
Instead of dreaming of myself or others as normal, sometimes I would
dream of graphic images such as boxes or rectangles moving. I remember
once dreaming of a box shape above me and suddenly it came at me and I
heard the loud bang and I woke up startled. It felt as if my brain
actually felt a shock. After that, I could be dreaming of anything and
the "bang" would happen and I would suddenly be awake. It's not like
hearing something fall or drop outside of your dream or in the room that
wakes me. It sounds like it's coming from my brain. Sometimes, I see a
flash of light when it happens. It's very quick. And suddenly my dream
is interrupted and I'm awake, aware of what has happened.
When I was very young, I can remember going to sleep and sometimes
seeing a very white light flash when my eyes were closed, but I don't
remember hearing the sound.

This has characteristic symptoms of repressed memories (child sexual abuse
or witnessing, perhaps, a gunshot/murder?) and the only thing you can
remember from childhood is the light. As your conscious mind tries to
unwrap that repressed memory, it keeps encountering the "bang" effect. Next
time this happens, immediately relax and "sink into" that "bang" vibration,
exploring it, and see if you can "peek" around the edges or inside of it to
fish out earlier childhood memories.
If you reply to this, PLEASE strip out all the crossposting except for
alt.dreams -- thanks.
