A book was just published by a group calling itself AWOL Vets for Truth. They
are Vietnam era national guardsmen who went AWOL and now are getting paid
running ads attacking W. Bush's service, or, rather, nonservice.
"Bush was a disgrace to all of us who went AWOL in the Alabama Nat'l Guard,"
says one member of AWOL Vets for Truth. "Bush went AWOL and didn't help others
go with him drinking or snorting cocaine," chimes in another. "We're going to
expose ALL the embellishments W. Bush put on his adventures while AWOL,"
announces a third. "For example, he drove in the wrong lane while drunk, NOT
on the sidewalk as Bush claims."
The Bush campaign bitterly denounced the smears and said it would file a
complaint with the SEC. "Attacking Bush is an attack on all those who went
AWOL," argues Karl Rove in a statement. "Besides, we think the AWOL Vets for
Truth are being coordinated by the Kerry campaign."
