Object: . Counting photons .
Hello Erico Di Gelato , You ask ,
" Is light a wave or a particle ? "
Photons are definitely waves ,
but they're funky waves ,
with particle-like behavior .
And with adding and cancelling ,
it's impossible to say how many photons might be in a peak .
People count the maxima of laser oscillations all the time ,
But no one can count photons .

Title: . Defining terms . 26 Dec 2003 11:18:23 AM
Hello Pete [ Gauge ] , Re: Franz's comment ,
" I don't use the term ' relativistic mass ' ever ,
since it serves no purpose .
The term ' energy ' does it all ,
without any adjectives . "
You wrote ,
" Relativistic mass , M ,
is the time component of ( mechanical ) 4-momentum ,
P , i.e. P ^ u = ( cM , p )
In an inertial frame of reference M = E / c ^ 2 .
However in a non-inertial frame that is no longer true "
Thanks Pete , I have to agree with you here ,
and I therefore disagree with Franz .
This seems to be why he plonked me .
If all the terms are defined well enough ,
I don't see why it's such an outrageous sin to say ,
" Relativistic mass " .

Its a religious thing with them I guess. You don't see me get irritated when
someone says "rest mass" or "proper mass" that's for sure.
I guess its like why waite does it - he learned mass depends of speed when
he was young but he never knew why. Then he went to school and his teacher
told him that it was not required in relativity. I.e. his teacher told him
something to the effect
"The quantity gamma*m is sometimes called the relativistic "mass" and m the
"rest mass." It is preferable, however, to recognize only one quantity as
the mass of an object, namely m itself."
waite took that to mean "if you use relativitic mass then you're stupid" or
something like that. He failed to reaslize that his teacher has an opinion
and that is all. He then ceased to seek out others opinions on this. After
all, how could his teacher's opinion be invalid right? He failed to ask how
all other teachers who have a different opinion could be right too.
He must have thought that he learned something new at that point and that he
now knew something more than his highchool buddies. That gave him the
feeling of superiority and he seems to enjoy that. Thus when someone
explains his errors to him he gets very irritated. However what waite never
considered was that this was something people have disggreed with for over a
half a century. He never decided to question his teacher and thus he never
learned the truth. Instead he insults those who disagree with him. I seem to
recall him saying that all "modern relativity" (a term he loves to use as if
it means something impressive) texts uses mass as he does. But when I
showed him several examples to the contrary he changed his tune - now they
are not good texts or some horse-***** like that.
What he failed to realize was that his teacher explained to him that the "m"
he keeps yapping about is the "classical mass" .
Here is the notes of his relativity teacher
http://www.public.asu.edu/~rjjacob/Lecture04.pdf
The shot answer is that people like waite are just too full of themselves
and, erroneously, think they know everything.
However you'll notice that waite's own relativity text tells him different.
One of his texts is by Rindler who uses relativisitic mass
waite now uses Rindler's text as a door stop

There as a very memorable thread where he tried to flame me using something

more evidence to me that people thinking only in terms of rest mass can lead
to incorrect conclusions. old man's confusion sure was a perfect example!

He's a very disturbed person to say the least! He should seek professional

when everyone tells him he's disturbed.
Did I tell you about the time that he stalked me to a Leukemia support

Eventually he started posting there and he royally ***** everyone

The double slit experiment can be done with atoms .

Even atoms are really just waves that have
" particle-like qualities " .
Does a single atom exist ?
The answer is not as easy as you might think ,
because there's always
a limit to the amount of information that we can collect .
My guess is that the observation of the second slit
destroys part of the wave .
But this is different from the H.U.P. , which is about
the impossibility of ever having complete information .

before you bought it , but then I don't have
an eye for that kind of thing , you know .
You say , " EIR is visible threw the paint " ,
what is EIR ? Cracks ?
It sounds like you broke your crew ...
As well as your American equipment .
( Why don't you use the Russian Deep 2 , 1,000 ton ? )
40 days with no sun sounds like a blast to me ,
I'm not all that fond of the tropics .
The inside straight , from Tacoma to Juneau ...
That's unbeatable .
Troy's finger stuck to a button
and he snapped it off in 60 seconds ? Not good .

EIR are big letters sand blasted off when we rebuilt it. In frost I
can see the letters still.
The mothball fleet has buoy tenders and a few ice brakers ,,I got the
big monster that had the nuke removed. it was a russian IB.
But yea ,,,you should see us in 10 days.
allmost clear of the straits.
we have 4 million year old buds off willow trees to plant. one log
has a critter inside 2 feet long and 4 million years old that may yet
live. the oldest wood on the planet is on this ship. the giant log
is a willow ..
weeping willows of the arctic .
one sail boat ,,,2 planes ,,6 tanks.
out of the 1200 ships stuck in ice .
and the emperers gold ...only 500 pounds gem wear. hit by torpedo
in 42 from egipt.
transfer to another ship just to be stuck there ..
the ship neaded its IB escort that got hit and nevr told he other ship
what was in all the crates. Then when they got stuck ,,they drove on
ice to alaska barrow 120 miles.
The ship went with the ice to where it is now.
we found it with sattlite imaging .

Hello T.J. , You wrote ,

That's the very start of the new year ... Good timing .
" Only " 500 pounds of gold ? That doesn't sound bad to me .
What's this about you secretly ( and single-handedly )
inventing the GPS system ... and without using SR or GR ? !
It's well known that :
The altitude ( GR )
and the orbiting speed ( SR ) of distant clocks
effects what frequencies scientists will observe .
