As Salaamu Alykum to all.
RAMADAN 1426 AH IS EXPECTED TO START ON THE DAY OF WED 05 OCT 2005 CE
FOR MOST OF THE WORLD, INSHALLAH.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE HILAL (CRESCENT MOON) OF RAMADHAN 1426 AH
TO BE VISIBLE ON THE EVENING OF MON 03 OCT 2005 CE FROM ANYWHERE IN THE
WORLD.
HENCE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR RAMADAN 1426 AH TO BEGIN ON TUE 04 OCT 2005 CE
FOR ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.
Ramadan 1426 CE for North America (USA and Canada) [along with most of the
countries in the Central and Southern Hemisphere] is expected (most
probable)
to start from the Day of Wed 05 Oct 2005 CE, with worldwide sightings of
the Hilal on the previous evening of Tue 04 Oct 2005 CE, inshallah.
For USA and Canada, the Hilal would "MOST PROBABLY" be sighted in the South,
South-Central and Western USA on the evening of Tue 04 Oct 2005 CE, in which
case
Ramadan, for USA and Canada, would start on the day of Wed 05 Oct 2005 CE.
Please look at updates on these webpages and elsewhere for the latest
information.
Please note that any Solar Eclipse occuring on the same date as an
Astronomical New Moon date does NOT automatically imply that a Hilal
will not be seen on that evening. The cross-reference between the Gregorian
and
the Islamic dates (MOST PROBABLE) is as follows, inshallah:

This happens every month??? Jeepers....
I just started reading this ng (sci.astro.amateur), so I had no idea. Why
not just let the guy post his lunar sightings list? It is obvious a lot of
effort goes into it, and whether it is repulsive to some or not, its
religious purposes do no erase the fact that it *is* directly related to
astronomy. Hmmm...
Perhaps if it weren't crossposted, it wouldn't be so irksome? Has anyone
asked the poster to consider posting it individually, instead? If the
poster has no intention of making any concessions to newsgroup etiquette,
then why not just ignore the postings? Two wrongs do not make a right,
morally. That's my only point.

I find the post out of place in an astronomy newsgroup - it is about as

So does Christianity.

"Did", not "does".

As a matter of fact, the religion of Islam is more tolerant to Christians
than the religion of Christianity is to Moslems.

Again, "was", not "is". Your statements are true when comparing
Christianity and Islam of thousand, or five hundred years ago. Not of
today.

And you'll find more churches in Moslem countries than mosques in
Christian countries.

I suggest you check on the rules governing building a church in Saudi
Arabia.
Your information appears to be somewhat dated. Like, couple centuries
behind the times.

Thank you John for stating this more clearly than I guess I have.
I am assuming that there must be some traditional way that Muslims find

talk about that tradition here and I have no idea what it is.

I'm close enough to water to see the tide level, knowing the time

High tide at midnight, the moon is either at zenith or on the other
side of the planet. Gotta take out daylight savings time though.

Quote from Physics Web (website of the Institute of Physics)
"One of the UK's leading research labs and the Muslim Council of Britain
have launched a project to improve our knowledge of the lunar calendar as
part of Einstein Year. The Moon Watch project encourages the general
public - especially amateur astronomers and the Islamic community - to
record when they see the new crescent moon and enter the details on a web
site. The exercise should help create more accurate lunar records, which
could benefit religions that use the lunar calendar to set important dates."

Foolishness admitted is most acceptable and forgiven, a mark of

Oh, I think you deserve one more chance. You may actually be

Of of course to cater to the preferences of the majority is a
great criteria when choosing ones actions.

In general, I don't see this sort of vile reaction (not referring to
Don's post) when people post Happy Thanksgiving or Christmas wishes.
They are much less astronomy related that the regular monthly posts
about the moon.
Oh well .. we'll continue to see these monthly announcements, and the
