Object: 100 times sharper than Hubble
What if these telescopes were in orbit , how much detail on
earth would we see?
excerpt
The four telescopes were separated by nearly 300 yards. Vacuum
tubes carried starlight from the four scopes to a U-M built device
called the Michigan Infrared Combiner, known as MIRC.
The combiner allowed researchers to merge infrared light from four of
CHARA's telescopes for the first time, simulating a single giant
instrument three football fields across. The result was an image of
unprecedented detail---roughly 100 times sharper than pictures from
the Hubble Space Telescope.
While solar astronomers can view sunspots and storms on our home
star's roiling surface in exquisite detail, most other stars
have---until very recently---appeared as simple points of light
through even the most powerful telescopes.

Isn't this a variant of the technology used in the Synthetic
Aperture Side Looking Radar systems that were used back in the
60s?

nasa better not make all these astronomical instruments that looks deep and
far into heavens, for it shakes peoples' belief in heavenly father. there
supposed to be estimated 2 trillion souls up there in heavens joining up
with heavenly father. that's way too may to be missed by hubble. without the
religion, people will be be rendered immoral. then what becomes of american
politics?

***{I assume you are joking. If so, the absurdity of thinking that loss
of religion would somehow render a person less moral destroys any humor
that might otherwise have been present in your comment. In fact the loss
of religious beliefs, provided they are rejected for the right reasons,
is a necessary precondition of moral growth.
Let me elaborate.
The measure of immorality is simply the extent to which a person is
indifferent to contradictions. Indifference to contradictions, in turn,
arises out of the desire to fit in with "significant others"--parents,
relatives, co-workers, supervisors, teachers, spouses, etc. It is that
desire which leads most people to view opinions not as representations
of truth, but as tools of social interaction. Result: they refuse to
focus on reasoning that would reveal the falsehood of opinions that they
regard as socially expedient, and, over time, become habitually
indifferent to contradictions, and, indeed, resentful of those who point
them out. Since traditional religion, secular humanism,
environmentalism, communism, fascism, relativism, behaviorism, and
multitudes of other popular doctrines are rife with contradictions, yet
are not rejected by their proponents despite a lifetime of opportunities
to identify their shortcomings, it inescapably follows that the
wellsprings of evil do not lie in false doctrines per se, but rather in
the mental processes by which false doctrines are embraced and
sustained.
That means a person's loss of belief in religion or in any similar
internally contradictory system of belief will improve his moral stature
only if he rejected it *because* he recognized its inherent
contradictions and made up his mind that he was not going to tolerate
them. The search for contradictions is the only way that falsehoods can
be identified, hence removed, from a belief system. When the falsehoods
have been identified and rejected, the truth will be that which remains.
Truth, of course, is often not socially expedient. Thus to become a
moral person, one must be willing to be rejected by those who maintain
self-contradictory systems of belief. And that applies regardless of who
those people are, including parents, relatives, co-workers, supervisors,
teachers, spouses, etc. Instead of fearing such rejection, you should
look forward to it, for it is precisely those who will reject you for
seeking truth who comprise the walls of the prison that prevents you
from becoming the best person that you can be.
Therefore focus on contradictions, reject the falsehoods that they
reveal, accept the truths that remain, and watch the walls of your
prison melt away. Only then will the real world that exists reveal
itself to you, and allow you to find the road to happiness.

i know. the real question that bears answer is: would the americanism of
america persuade the people, who always seem to want to be on safe moral
grounds embraced in the bible, to abandon christanity because hubble will
surely blow the bubble with its everday photographs of bright bursting stars
etc and not a trace of the 2 trillions in tow of heavenly father who is
supposed to like like a man, for he is supposed to have a man's image. what
happens if the americans find greater morality in a heathen culture under
the hubble regime? let's stop hubble before it stops america in tract.

I really cannot parse that. Perhaps your thoughts and your
communication would be clearer if you broke that into
shorter, more independent thoughts.
My only conclusion is that you fear change.
But change is the reality in this universe,
so, perhaps you fear reality.

Hardly, that's the old traditional view. The soul has
always been considered to be non-material, more like
"personality" or "spirit".

you physics majors are just too proud of ourselves to read intellegent

ROFL, "Intellegent Design" is the new age propaganda

Exactly the sort of clueless statement that shows
you can't believe them. The volume of a human is
of the order of 1m^3 so 2*10^12 humans would fit
in a sphere just 10 miles in diameter. A "big glob"
in a hubble image is probably many light years
away or even far outside our galaxy and would need
to be billions of miles across to be detectable.

Hardly, that's the old traditional view. The soul has
always been considered to be non-material, more like
"personality" or "spirit".

quote something in bible that would square with above (you can't).
you are just giving us new age stuff.

I'll leave the quoting to others but what I am telling
you was basic church teaching where I was brought up
in a fishing village in Scotland 50 years ago, and
you don't get much farther from "new age" than that.

you physics majors are just too proud of ourselves to read intellegent
design,

ROFL, "Intellegent Design" is the new age propaganda
that attempts to sound scientific but when you look
into it, has nothing but PR spin.

say what????!!!!!!!
intellegent design is a product of, and is widely approved (ie blessed)
by, the conservative church establishment.

Exactly, produced by a group with a vested interest.
Anyone who looks at it critically can see that there is
no scientific content at all, just standard religious
dogma packaged with scientific words to make it sound
more credible. It is "snake-oil", and you would be better
to stay with traditional teaching than follow what is
ultimately nothing more than an attempt to bolster
numbers by bringing in those of minimal faith.

you got it backward, senor jorje.

I alwasy know when someone realises their argument
is flawed, they resort to personal insults.

i saw a stage drama on it just a few weeks back.

Thanks, you make my case for me, it is nothing
more than a "drama".

god made man in his image, that's says it all. there are human images
out
there in the skies. they are supposed to have wings.

Then it is wrong, obviously, because humans don't
have wings.

all depiction of post death beings by well regarded conservative sources
show them with wings.

Sure, but when did you see a _live_ human with wings?
That's what you claimed above. Read your own words
again:

god made man in his image ..
there are human images out there in the skies. they are supposed to have
wings.

do try to keep up, maharishi george.

You seem to be losing the plot a bit.

but not to worry. i just heard recently on 700 club that their scientist
has
found a curious big glob in a hubble image. their preliminary study
indicates that if two trillion human figures could be laid together,
that's the kind of glob you would get.

You are worrying unneccesarily.

why would they want to hang out so far away?

That's where Hubble looks. Why don't you do a little
research - for example ask "700 club" (whatever that
is) how far away the "big glob" is. Ask if it shows
proper motion. Ask if its distance has been determined
by parallax or red shift. Better yet, go to the Hubble
web site and find out how far away an object 10 miles
in diameter could be seen. I think you will be
surprised how close it would have to be. Learn how
astronomy works and then judge for yourself.
Here's a simple set of maps that will give you an
idea of the scales we are talking about. Where do
you think the "big glob" would turn up on these?
http://www.atlasoftheuniverse.com/index.html

i am telling you guys hubble will do it to america.

Hubble is nearing the end of its life and will be
de-orbited in a few years anyway. It should be
replaced by a far more powerful telescope that can
start to reach the time when the first stars came
into existence. Look up JWST.

don't you want to be saved?

Having recently lost an acquaintance to a religious
sect, your suggestion sounds like a threat. If you
want to be saved from that fate, learn enough to
test people's claims for yourself. If they are
genuine then their claims should stand up and you
have lost nothing, but there a lot of crooks out
there pretending to be what they are not. Give
yourself the tools to sort the wheat from the
chaff.

Some do, some don't, but I think those who do would

the bible suggests anywhere that heaven would be
visible to any physical detector.

are you all out to prove mark twain right and destroy the god of bible?

Certainly not. Personally I no longer believe there
was anything to destroy but I respect the right of
others to believe. What I do detest is that endless
self-serving "churches" will promote hatred and
destruction to prove that theirs is the only correct
way to worship a god whose prime tenet was peace and
understanding. I hate that sort of hypocrisy and I
will give you factual information whenever I can to
expose their lies.
What you see above is an example, I will point you at
maps and data and respect your intelligence enough to
allow you to work it out for yourself so you can form
your own _informed_ opinion of your "700 club"'s
so-called scientist.

the bible suggests anywhere that heaven would be
visible to any physical detector.

are you all out to prove mark twain right and destroy the god of bible?

Certainly not. Personally I no longer believe there
was anything to destroy

you are saying god of bible is a myth in your view?
g-e-o-r-g-e? you no longer believe it had anything of value to be destroyed?

but I respect the right of
others to believe. What I do detest is that endless
self-serving "churches" will promote hatred and
destruction to prove that theirs is the only correct
way to worship a god whose prime tenet was peace and
understanding. I hate that sort of hypocrisy and I
will give you factual information whenever I can to
expose their lies.

churches brought religion to africa, south america and many heathen nations.
isn't that enough?
they meant well. and now they are doing it in india but those impossible
hindus are not persuaded by money-for-soul trade, get upset when
missionaries say bad things about their religion and what would happen to
them after death, and throw the "love" stuff back at the "agressive
missionaries", and complain that missionaries use fraudulent tactics to win
converts. what's their problem? don't missionaries have a right to spread
the good word regardless of tactics?

What you see above is an example, I will point you at
maps and data and respect your intelligence enough to
allow you to work it out for yourself so you can form
your own _informed_ opinion of your "700 club"'s
so-called scientist.

700 club scientists pray a lot to an entity "lord" for their vision.

at this rate you - and your co-travellers - can not be saved.
hubble is
going to destroy christianity. hubble must be declared evil, and
brought
down. ..

I think you are trolling, but on the slight chance
that you might be serious, just consider that you
can't see the soul of a person standing in front
of you, so Hubble is never going to show you
something that can't be seen, and that lack of
visibility should do nothing to damage any beliefs
you or others may hold.

George

bible says no such thing. you and john poplish both are just giving
us new age stuff. liberlas!

Hardly, that's the old traditional view. The soul has
always been considered to be non-material, more like
"personality" or "spirit".

quote something in bible that would square with above (you can't).
you are just giving us new age stuff.

I'll leave the quoting to others but what I am telling
you was basic church teaching where I was brought up
in a fishing village in Scotland 50 years ago, and
you don't get much farther from "new age" than that.

so, you learned non-bible religion in a church!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I learned the _content_ of the religion, by
which I mean what the words meant regarding how
one should live one's life, not how to parrot
quotations.

george, quit dillydallying. was the _content_ bible corroborated or not?

What I was taught was that the bible, when describing
heaven, was referring to a spiritual region, not
physical. In fact you are the first person I have
ever talked to who thought it was a place in our
universe.

we all know all wise words are not kosher in the eyes of heavenly father
of bible.

i hope the pope does not hear *that*.

I don't care, it was a Protestant church ;-)

well, then, the southern baptist church (sbc) on usa is going to have get
mad too.

Then in my opinion they have no right to consider
themselves Christian. Such bigotry has no place
in the faith.

they don't like new age stuff there that you are enamored with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestant_Reformation
My "new age" stuff was invented in the 1517 and the
century before that. When was your SBC formed?

he will be mad as hell. he has already said yoga is evil.
scotland is in trouble.

If the Scots were ardent followers of yoga, your
comment might make some sense.

it is now only a matter of time before sbc comes down on scotland.

That should be good for a laugh :-)
....

god made man in his image ..
there are human images out there in the skies. they are supposed to
have wings.

do try to keep up, maharishi george.

You seem to be losing the plot a bit.

not really. here is the plot:
heavenly father, who dwells up in the sky, ...

Not "in the sky", in "heaven". Big difference.

there you go again with your new age stuff.

No, there I go again with stuff that is about
500 years old.

ok, what's the difference?
be sure the difference you paint is supportable in the bible.

Heaven is beyond the trials and tribulations of
the physical world. Find your own quotations to
support that or refute it.

so, hubble - or its successors - is clearly in a position to test
biblical claims better than pope or bible or any body else since the
test subject and data are immense. wouldn't you agree thus far?

No, "heaven" is supposed to be a realm beyond our
four dimensions, or the 'mortal plane'.

no, no, no. bible does not talk dimensions.

That's right, and it doesn't give you the right
ascension and declination of heaven either. Those
terms would not apply.

It is not
meant to be part of our mundane physical world but
is literally "supernatural", or "beyond nature".
It is not detectable by any physical means, you have
to feel it in your own soul.

this, again, is the new age stuff.

No, this is traditional stuff, 500 years old
and more.

according to bible and preachers,

Your preachers perhaps, but that is exactly the problem.
Two branches of the Christian church can read the same
passage and take completely different meanings from it.

you are not supposed to feel anything in your soul. bible does not have
much to say about the nature of soul, much less what it can feel.

Otherwise Hubble could
show you it and you are into the "evidence denies
faith" argument.

souls are up in the sky, aka heaven. ronald reagan was quite clear on
that,

Ronald Reagan suffered from the severe mental problems
of old age and was seen as somewhat senile even while
in office.

and he is as conservative as it comes, and he was the president.

Yes, and slightly nuts, but perhaps you weren't
aware of how he was seen by the rest of the world.

but not to worry. i just heard recently on 700 club that their
scientist has
found a curious big glob in a hubble image. their preliminary study
indicates that if two trillion human figures could be laid together,
that's the kind of glob you would get.

Give
yourself the tools to sort the wheat from the
chaff.

whose claim - and what claim

I was referring to your statement above:

are we talking past each other?

Possibly. All I was saying was that you should learn
enough about astronomy to be able to test people's
claims for yourself.

... i just heard recently on 700 club that their scientist has
found a curious big glob in a hubble image. their preliminary study
indicates that if two trillion human figures could be laid together,
that's the kind of glob you would get.

Did you check it out as I suggested?

need time for that.

Take all the time you need, it is more important to
get it right than to make a snap judgement. It might
help if you found out the size of asteroids that
people worry about hitting the Earth, and how close
they need to be if they are 10 miles across we are to
discover them.

- have you found to be genuine on the heavenly father matter under
question?
do you, and your astronomer friends, believe in heavenly father, george?

Some do, some don't, but I think those who do would
agree with me that you are mistaken in thinking that
the bible suggests anywhere that heaven would be
visible to any physical detector.

are you all out to prove mark twain right and destroy the god of bible?

you are saying god of bible is a myth in your view?

Yes.

g-e-o-r-g-e? you no longer believe it had anything of value to be
destroyed?

Goodness no! What it teaches is invaluable, but I
see the supernatural part in the sense of fable and
parables, written as a way to impart the message.
Much of it is based on historical events but as seen
through particular eyes.

but I respect the right of
others to believe. What I do detest is that endless
self-serving "churches" will promote hatred and
destruction to prove that theirs is the only correct
way to worship a god whose prime tenet was peace and

will give you factual information whenever I can to
expose their lies.

churches brought religion to africa, south america and many heathen
nations. isn't that enough?

It destroyed their cultures and wiped out most of them
by introducing diseases to which they had no immunity.
If you consider genocide to be something to brag about,
you are no Christian in my eyes.

they meant well.

Yes, that's the sad part.

and now they are doing it in india but those impossible hindus are not
persuaded by money-for-soul trade, get upset when missionaries say bad
things about their religion and what would happen to them after death, and
throw the "love" stuff back at the "agressive missionaries", and complain
that missionaries use fraudulent tactics to win converts. what's their
problem?

The problem is that they are right, the missionaries
are still behaving with the same arrogance that they
did two centuries ago, they have learnt very little.
How would you feel if Hindu missionaries came to your
town and used those tactics to convert your family?
Try to put yourself in their shoes and understand how
they would feel.

don't missionaries have a right to spread the good word regardless of
tactics?

No, they have the right to offer their views but they
do not have the right to force them on others. If the
views are true, that should be enough. What you are
advocating is exactly what Al-Qaeda think they are
doing: to promote their beliefs by whatever means are
necessary. Well I say the end does _not_ justify the
means, and I would have hoped you would agree with me
on that.

What you see above is an example, I will point you at
maps and data and respect your intelligence enough to
allow you to work it out for yourself so you can form
your own _informed_ opinion of your "700 club"'s
so-called scientist.

700 club scientists pray a lot to an entity "lord" for their vision.

Scientists use what is called the Scientific Method
which means that any model of the world around us
must be derived from repeatable measurements of that
world. If that is not what they are doing then they
are not scientists, just propaganda merchants.
