Object: 2005 "World Year of Physics"
The 2005 World Year of Physics" was originally planned at conference was
held in Graz from July 6 to 9, 2003 - now, already in the second half of
2005, I am wondering what this concept has accomplished? - a couple
websites are devoted to it: http://www.physics2005.org/ and
http://www.wyp2005.org/ - I first found out about this "event" by accident
when I walked past the Department of Energy building in Washington DC in
early July and saw a banner on the building - I walked inside the building
to ask about this event, but none of the three guards there knew anything
about it and could not direct me anywhere in the building to find out (or
maybe they did not care?)
this event is supposed to be supported by the UN - but at this year's Expo
2005 in Aichi, Japan, there seems to be no mention of the World Year of
Physics
I am wondering whether the organizers of this important event forgot about
the 2005 World Expo as a way of promoting this event - (I even wonder how
many people are even aware of the World Expo 2005 in Aiche at all, since
there seems to be no media coverage of it that I know of)
anyway, if it is so important to promote physics curricula in schools and to
increase enrollment in physics programs, it seems that the effort is not
commensurate with these goals

It has accomplished that, exactly as I had predicted, the number
of crackpots, idiots, kooks and trolls on these public forums has
at least doubled.

ik begrijp je helemaal niet - waarom heb jij een probleem met wat ik heb
ge-posten in deze niewsgroep?
I do not understand what your problem is, menheer Vdm, since my post is
exactly on point with this newsgroup's mission, which is to promote
discussion about physics
if the 2005 World of Physics is intended to promote physics, then what
better newsgroup to post in than these two? - or are you content to let this
"celebration" of physics slide by into history?

Indeed it is and I don't have a problem with what you were saying.
I totally agree with you.

You asked what the concept "2005 World Year of Physics"
had accomplished. My sarcastic answer was that the concept
has accomplished that, exactly as I had predicted, the number
of crackpots, idiots, kooks and trolls on these public forums
has at least doubled.

ok, so your sarcasm about the 2005 World Year of Physics concept provides a
basis for your prior suggestion that the number of inappropriate posters in
these newsgroups has increased - and how do you define what an "appropriate"
post is?

[snip]
Isn't that rather like having spaceflight supported by NASA? It will
cost like sin, a chosen few will greatly benefit above and below the
table, it will fail.

it is a WORLD event! - taxpayers' money is being spent - it is an effort to
promote physics curricula in our educational system
