A Geek Manifesto |
I was reading an article about geeks and Asperberger Syndrome people
where it was pointed out that if we had no geeks that the rest of
society might have really good conversation but they'd be living in
caves cuz us geeks have invented just about everything the normal types
use. It suddenly occurred to me that us geeks are a major downtrodden
minority that the rest of society disparages but desperately needs.
Yes, we're the ones who were picked on High School for our lack of
social skills or lack of athletic prowess. We're the ones routinely
lampooned by "normal" society as clueless nerds. We're the ones
condemned to spend our days in the background while the lawyers and
business types live as parasites on our ideas. It is time we got what
we are due, recognition, royalties, and REPARATIONS.
Think about it, they make TV shows about sexy high power lawyers but
us geeks know that the average lawyer is a moron compared to our peers.
These guys would still be discussing the merits of left or right wing
goose quill pens if us geeks did not exist to invent typewriters, then
computers. We need to DEMAND that we be paid for our mental labor and
then be re-paid for those who were oppressed before us so that we can
use the money to develop more things that the "normal" types use.
In the past, we were crippled by our own lack of social skills so that
geek organization and unionization was impossible but today with
communication by computer, we have the power. Unlike other oppressed
minorities, society desperately needs us. They might think they could
get by without us but we can just develop better things and sell them
to someone else.
Most people who read this will think I am joking but I am not. The
only thing that the "normals" really comprehend is power, they are
essentially incapable of understanding much else. When we really take
the power that belongs to us, society will change. Our children will be
admired for their geek skills rather than rejected for their sartorial
shortcomings. Instead of outsourcing our engineering skills,
management and the legal department will be replaced by AI. The
Intellectual Property that really belongs to us will be ours and we
will be properly paid for it rather than having it be owned by "The
Suits". "Normal" society will learn to value and even fear those they
once rejected and criticized.
