Black body radiation inside a tight cavity. A disk shaped susceptor
(Very efficient, low cost) is capable of absorbing enough microwave
energy in just one minute to keep a ceramic plate hot (Still hot after)
for 30 minutes or more. The heat is released at a controlled rate in
order to compensate for the heat losses of the food. It has a delay
action to avoid overheating the food. The plate can be handled with the
bare hands by the rim which remains cool.
The susceptor releases infrared radiation in accordance with the
stefan-Boltzmann law (Conduction and convection are minimized by an
ingenious design).
