A RELATIVISTIC BIOLOGICAL MIRACLE |
Space travel in a rocket at 1-g acceleration is widely
known. It is called hyperbolic motion by the experts
because the wordline in spacetime is a hyperbola. Naturally,
after a year of 1-g acceleration the rocket is practically
at the speed of light and therefore there is a LARGE time
dilation between Earth time (t) and Rocket time (T). The
formula relating the two for 1-g straight line motion is
given by MTW in Section 6.2 as:
(eq. 1) t = .971 sinh (1.03 T)
while the distance travelled is given by:
(eq. 2) d = .971 cosh (1.03 T)
where the units are (years) and (lightyears).

Now suppose someone went on a circular rocket trip at
1-g for the first half of the trip and then flipped the
rocket around and deacclerated at 1-g for the last half of
the trip subsequently landing at rest back on Earth.
The question is, if he spent 15 years on the journey, how
much time would have elapsed on Earth? And, how big a
circle would he have made?
OK, the first question is answered using equation (1)
which is t = .971 sinh (1.03 T) putting in T=7.5 years for
the outbound half of the trip, and we get:
t= 1,099 years of elapsed "Earth time"
and of course likewise for the inbound half of the trip we
add another 1,099 years for the other half of the circle to
slow down and land back on Earth.
So for a total trip of 15 years "rocket time" we see that
2,198 years of "Earth time" have elapsed between liftoff and
landing.
The second question is: How big a circle did he make?
For that we use equation (2), again putting in T=7.5 years
for the outbound half of the circle and we get for the half
circumference of the circle:
C/2 = .971 cosh(1.03 T) = 1,099 light years
which means the Radius of the circle is RAD = 350 light
years.
Incidentally, some may object to me using straight line
accleration formulas for circular motion. But we observe
that the centrifugal (transverse) accleration in this case
is only:
centrifugal force = v^2/R = 1^2/350=.003 g which is
certainly ignorable in comparison to the 1-g longitudnal
acceleration of the spaceship.
Now the point of this calculation is to demonstrate that
a BIOLOGICAL MIRACLE is possible. If for instance there had
been a rocket ship in Jerusalem at the time of Calvary,
Jesus could have simply boarded the thing, and could have
landed at Cape Canaveral 15 years later according to his
wristwatch, but according to Earth clocks it would now be
2,007 AD!. Assuming he was 33 when he left he would only be
48 when he appeard on the David Letterman show last week!
Now, I only mention this KNOWN BIOLOGICAL MIRACLE because
I have recently posted a "Causal theory of Life After Death"
on the Physics newsgroups and somone commented that Life
After Death is NOT BELIEVEABLE on the simple grounds that it
asks us to believe that there is an "unprecedented
biological miracle", a spectacular biological miracle that
has NO PRECEDENT in the entire history of the world
including the entire annals of Science. However, I claim
that the TWINS TIME DILATION as I have just described it, IS
IN FACT A MIRACULAOUS BIOLOGICAL PRECEDENT of EXACTLY the
same type and caliber as the (Chrisitan) theory of Life
After Death (relativistic death dream) that I have reported
in my post.
Life After Death is NO MORE BIOLOGICALLY MIRACULOUS than
Einstein's PROVEN TWINS PARADOX..... and I think physicists
should keep that in mind.
After all, the idea that there could be a (5-sense) death
dream read out at the moment of death and then
(subjectively) experienced in a time dilated form which
might last years... is NO WHERE NEAR AS FANTASTIC as the
proven fact that (in principle) Jesus of Nazereth could have
(in principle) made his Second Coming last week, in the
flesh, using the KNOWN TWINS PARADOX TIME DILATION.

"1-g acceleration" doesn't exist!
Acceleration isd a measurement of spped increase over time.
g (gravitation) is a relativistic measurement of the FORCE of gravity!
