I have worked out a very very simple but nice example
of variational calculus and cast it into an amusing form
under the sci-fi title
"Ad Astra Ltd and Early History of Gravity Engineering".
This post is a bit self-promotional but I believe that the
article may be quite useful to physics and math teachers
at college and university-sophomore levels.
Who knows, it might even establish Gravity Engineering
as a novel (space-)engineering branch.
