Are Modern Astronomers Low-Grade Morons? |
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Sadly, the answer is Yes. Modern astronomers are ignorant,
and they prefer to stay that way. Only in death will they
finally admit to their servile cowardice and incompetence
(assuming their IQ > 70, which at this point is doubtful).
I'd offered substantial reward monies for going on a year
now, but not one astronomer was willing or able to accept
my generous cash offer. They claim to be intelligent, but
their deafening silence proves that they are lame-brained
and uneducated. As a result, I've withdrawn the reward $$
I'd offered, since modern astronomers are plain worthless.

Just because a post has the word "moron" in the subject, doesn't
necessarily mean it's about you. Sure, a lot of them are, but not all
of them. Hope this helps.

Yes I do Primate. If you mentioned in a post that you use PGP and Min
kook asked for your
public key, would you give it to him? The idea is *not* to receive mail
from him rather than worrying about if a third party could decipher the
mail and read it. And not everyone who uses PGP makes their key
'public' on Usenet.
Of course, I send and receive e-mail using PGP from a random public
library, internet cafe computer or from my notebook and Webtv using a
seedy New Jersey motel signing in as "John Smith" while wearing dark
glasses, foil hat, fake beard and gloves :-)
There's a lot of wolves out there.

OK, I get that. What I don't get is why Min signing his message with
his key has anything to do with you giving him your public key. You
use his public key to verify the post was from him and is unaltered,
your key doesn't come into it, in fact you don't even need to have
one. That's why I found the mention of anyone else's keys in response
to Min signing a message with his key suggestive of someone who
doesn't understand what it's all about.

Well, the 12 didn't walk around on the Moon; their shoes did. :-)
At least here on Earth one can wander around in bare feet
without protective equipment.
Then again, that's probably close enough for most people.
I'll admit I'm not sure if I like Bush's plan, or not. Maybe if

Back when chemistry sets were still politically correct I'm fairly sure
a DIY volcano was one of the standard demos. You could probably buy a
kit from Edmund Scientific.
I'm also reminded of the time Boston passed a law banning nuclear
experiments within city limits. It prompted a cartoon showing two
students with a mushroom cloud in the background and the caption "I
think we just violated a local ordinance".

Well, the 12 didn't walk around on the Moon; their shoes did. :-)
At least here on Earth one can wander around in bare feet
without protective equipment.
Although there are still many places where it is not recommended.
Oceans, active lava flows, nuclear containment vessels, just to name a
few.
Ouch. Good point.
No problem. "Familiarity breeds contempt." We tend to think of Earth
as being human-friendly, mostly because we're from here, when, in
fact, most of it actually isn't.

Then again, one can still wander around here in bare feet without
protective equipment on the bits that *are* safe... :-) (At least
until they become unsafe -- either because someone inadvertantly
wandered into an unsafe patch of poison ivy, man o' war, or
into the territory of a cobra who bites one foot, or one waits
until some poison ivy, a man o' war, or a cobra comes into the
previously safe territory. Fortunately for most of us, poison
ivy grows slowly, a man o' war is restricted to waterways, and
a cobra is probably unlikely in most areas of the United States...)
I don't think the Moon has any safe bits, unless one
counts the LEM (which isn't on the Moon anymore anyway,
although its launch base might be).

I'll Bite.
I have always had a few questions for the astrological crowd. Here is
one:
Why does the zodiac not include the bright (and ancient) constellation
of Ophiuchus? Yet it includes the dull and small Cancer? Both lie on the
ecliptic and both were known in ancient times. Seems a bit of an oversight
to me.
In answer to your babble: The ancients and indeed right up to Kepler
were very puzzled by the planetary movements as they sometimes appear to
move in retrograde and at other times in the more usual East to West. This
stumped all the great minds of the time and even Copernicus whose circular
orbits couldn't predict accurate results. You have the advantage of
hindsight, something our erstwhile astronomers did not have.
I wouldn't take your money as I feel you will need it to spend on an
Astronomy course, as your overall knowledge in this field is sadly lacking.

What was this reward for? The linked post doesn't mention a reward and
a quick search didn't find any mention of the criteria for receiving
the reward either.
