Endless dialectic |
Two physicists were sitting on opposite sides of a table looking at a
disc turning between them. It was upright (ie, spinning in a vertical
plane) and they were viewing the disc face-on."
Physicist # 1 ---"It's turning clockwise!"
Physicist # 2 --- "You idiot! It's spinning counter-clockwise!!!!!!"
(And so on)

Don't forget the third guy facing the side of the disc.
Physicist # 3 --- You are both morons, it is not a disc, it is a line.
:)
Then there is the guy that just reads the data of the observations.
Physicist # 4 --- 3 highly respected physicists have emperically
observed clockwise and counterclock wise motion of a disc shaped line.

Clockwise and opposite, left and right orientation refers to a plane
here. But actually the rotating disc is moving: round earth, with earth
and moon around their center, which is circling around the sun and with
the sun direction Hercules and rotating as part of the galaxy...
so one has a screw-like motion and according to Maxwell there are two
of these, again denoted with left and right, but different from
plane-left and -right, it's screw-left and screw-right.
I'm not a phyicist, so did i screw it up?
Enjoy

Reminds me of the Brown-Waite flame wars on sci.physics.relativity.

Nonsens from you, as always.
Physicists will first define the frame of reference,
then watch (or measure).
