Physicists in Italy claim to have obtained the first experimental
evidence for a new state of matter called a Bose glass, which they
created by cooling a sample of rubidium atoms to near absolute zero. The
atoms were held in an "optical lattice", where they normally exist as
either a Mott insulator or a Bose-Einstein condensate. But when the
researchers created disorder in the lattice, they found that ensemble
behaved like an insulating glass (Phys. Rev. Lett. 98 130404).

Interesting. Combining that with your (I think, I can't find it to
verify) other post about anisotropic refrigeration to within
skillionths of absolute zero and we might see states of matter that
exhibit one property (superinsulation, transparency, etc.) one
direction and its opposite (superconductivity, inability to pass
light, etc.) in others?
Wow. Improvements on the original Lux and Relux?

Didn't Einstein predict that if things get cold enough a number of
particles forms a state of matter called something like "Superatom"?
