Perhaps a little global warming would reduce the mid-lat
storms which cause tornadoes.

We saw a little bit of it from a Thai restaurant in
Fitzhew Ave. A couple of walnut sized ones fell and hit
the lower part of window but that was all. I mean other
than horizontal rain and stuff. None hit the car :-)
The owner and some assistants had arrived, just in
case. Bad area!
We also saw three little funnels forming just east of
downtown coming down from the dark disc but
disintegrated a few seconds later. The damn thing was
like a black moving hat over Dallas ...

Much tornadoes and hail might improve it. I went to Texas to learn
meanness lessons. About 6 months was all it took to make me the man I
am now.
The tornadoes have now left the house (Montgomery, Alabama) and are
headed for Georgia at 40 mph.
NYC has about one of every kind of severe weather watch and warning

oh wait, that's just the normal daily situation there.

Sounds about par for that course. I was working for a systems
integrator in PHX AZ that sent me to Houston and D/FW to teach post
office techs to maintain and repair the computer system I helped
design, build, and install to streamline their mail flow. Only took me
two weeks to graduate "***** School", but look who my teachers
were. ;>)

Did you know most places have laws about how mobile homes are
supposed to be tied down? Did you also know they're mostly ignored?

Title: Losses Estimated at $25 Million in North Texas Storm 17 Apr 2007 04:17:41 PM

Losses Estimated at $25 Million in North Texas Storm
April 17, 2007
A fast moving storm that slammed into the Dallas/Fort Worth area on
the night of April 13 spawned tornadoes and large hail and caused an
estimated $25 million in insured losses. Two people, including an
Irving police officer, lost their lives in storm-related accidents,
the Insurance Council of Texas reported.
Tornadoes were confirmed in Haltom City, northeast of Fort Worth,
Benbrook, southwest of Fort Worth and Rockwall County, east of Dallas.
Golf ball to baseball size hail was reported on a line from North
Richland Hills to the Hurst area.
"A number of businesses in Haltom City sustained several million
dollars in damage, but it was the hailstorms in the area that caused
the most damage," said Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the Insurance
Council of Texas. "Thousands of homes and automobiles pelted by the
hail stones have been the bulk of the reported claims into insurance
companies and agencies."
An estimated 5,500 automobiles and 3,500 homes/businesses were
reported damaged from the storm. Roofs were blown off, air
conditioning units crumpled and wind blown debris including trees was
smashed into automobiles, homes and businesses.
Hanna said at least one insurance agent may have to be handle his own
claims. The home of Bill Antle, who owns Antle Insurance Agency in
North Richland Hills, was hit by baseball size hail. Antle's car and
truck were also heavily damaged with windows broken.
Several businesses including a church, grocery store, recreational
vehicle center and a trailer facility received heavy damage.
Both insurance companies and agencies brought in additional personnel
over the weekend to handle the claims.

Board declares emergency at school
Move puts repairs of storm damage at Russell High on front burner
BY JERRY F. RUTLEDGE
Staff Writer
In a move to expedite the repair of storm-damaged Russell County High
School, the county Board of Education approved a resolution Wednesday
declaring an emergency during a called meeting at the Russell County
School District office.
A severe thunderstorm with baseball-sized hail damaged the roof,
skylight and the interior of the main building of the high school
April 11. Last weekend, another storm increased the damage to the high
school.
The result was water puddles in the school's common area and gymnasium
and water damage in a number of the school's classrooms.
Superintendent Vivian Carter, Russell County High Principal Dolores
McTier and Tyrone Jordan, system maintenance supervisor, apprised the
board of the situation during the meeting. The system is on spring
break this week, with a return to classes set for Monday.
The board's 6-0 vote and the declaration of an emergency set in motion
the process of getting the repairs started. Without the declaration,
the process could have been delayed as much as three weeks.
Insurance adjusters visited the building Friday and again earlier this
week to assess the damage. There are no cost estimates, but a new roof
plus ceiling, wall and carpeting could push repairs into six figures.
The school system's insurance company will pay for the repairs.
McTier said almost all of the rooms in the main body of the school had
some damage, with the leaking roof leading to damaged ceiling tiles
and waterlogged carpet.
Carter said the classes will go on as scheduled, but she does have
contingency plans if some of the classrooms are not ready in time.
