Goodbye Vajk |
I culled this fragment from another thread. It was written by Vajk in
response to a witty remark by Hanson:
"As I leave this place (sci.physics) behind
I wanted to make a point of thanking you for
the laughs which were always worth reading,
never a swing and a miss, and you made it
look so easy."
If indeed it is true, I would like him to know how much I look forward
to his departure.

I think he has gone. Here is the goodbye message he left in rom.
"Goodbye.
Thanks for email from several folks, and Rob you
keep right on a-truckin as you have been both
in real(tm) life and in this newsgroup. I
appreciated your comment but I need to be
very busy elsewise for the foreseeable future.
Penny, we'll be talking soon.
I haven't promised myself or anyone whether or not
I'll eventually be back as I really don't know. It
is most likely that I won't, but who knows.....
I'd bid you farewell and wish each and every one of
you health, wealth, happiness, as well as the gift of
wisdom, and the time to enjoy them"
He didn't say goodbye to sci.phys.

I'm not very surprised.

I'm not very surprised.
An obvious case of psychosis yet accepted by those who were apparently
OK with his superficial intelligence. As for trying to cleanse sci.phys,
its up there with the futility of proving the quadrature of a circle.
Probably on a par with all 3 or 4 problems of antiquity.

There is a Usenet law to the effect that those who say they are
leaving don't, and those who leave don't say. The act of saying
goodbye in itself implies the activity is still invested with some
psychological benefit, whereas a terminal cessation implies lack of
interest.
The person who quoted that here was a post-doc at the time, name of
Matt McIrvin, who since has follwed the latter route.
