Object: Ikea Red house on the moon
The drab color of the moon , all grays depresses the whole
world. This is a follow up of my idea of painting large areas of the
moon with red paint , it can be very thin as there is no atmosphere.
What about gold paint to reflect light to the earth to save on
lighting?

There is even talk of getting the Swedish homeware giant to back the
project. "We have contacted Ikea, as well as other companies, for
sponsorship," says Genberg. So far, there has been no response, but
Ikea may wish to boldly go where no furniture shop has ever gone
before.
The Soviet Union sent the first cosmonaut into orbit. The US were
first to put a man on the moon. Now Sweden is determined to be the
first to build a cute country cottage there.
Its space agency is working towards putting a little red house, of the
type that can be seen everywhere in the Swedish countryside, on the
moon by 2011. The Swedish Space Corporation carried out a feasibility
study two years ago and concluded that the project was possible. An
open competition is now under way, calling on all bright sparks to
come up with the best design.
The project is expected to cost around £53m. Since there isn't yet a
design for the cottage, it is not clear what size it will be, although
Genberg hopes it will be "big enough for two people to stand in". It
would have to be made of a very thin material that can be folded;
Mylar, for example, a type of polyester film. The package would be
placed on board a rocket, which could be fired from the space port in
Kourou in French Guyana, or from the one at Baikonour in Kazakhstan.
Once the module reaches the moon, it will attempt to land, find a good
spot (ideally not too shady) and eject the section with the house. It
could be inflatable or a flat-packed version that builds itself, which
sounds like heaven for anyone who has struggled to put together an
Ikea Billy bookcase.

When we are starving what good is the dull gray surface of the
moon? A tubful of gold could probably coat the whole surface of the
moon and increase its reflecting power fivefold , so that one could
drive on moonlit nights without beams .

Hm. An interesting calculation. Take a 1 m^3 of gold.
This would weigh about 19,300 kg or 620,500 troy ounces.
As of this moment that would be worth about $390M. Of more
interest is that this cube would have about 98000 moles or
5.9 * 10^28 atoms. That's about 3.893 * 10^9 atoms on each
edge -- and the number of possible "slices", if one naively
assumes gold has a crystalline structure which is vaguely
cubic (which it doesn't but never mind). Therefore, we
can coat about 3.893 * 10^9 m^2 of surface with this cube,
1 atom thick.
The surface area of the Moon is about 3.793 * 10^13 m^2.
Therefore, we'd need about $3.9T worth of gold to do the
job, although fortunately for everybody we'd really only
need to coat about 60% of the surface.
Dare I calculate the boost costs for 193,000 metric tonnes
of the stuff?

Can you still feed yourself or do you require help?

Why, you have a surplus of things you've fucked up in
your kitchen?
How many hours _do_ you spend each day in there?? You
cook-heads are some sorry souls. I have not even
_walked_ normally in kitchen. I make a run to fridge to
grab something to relocate from without to within, for
nutritional purposes. THAT's eating for mature men.
You're still looking for what you lost after infancy.

Germans have gotten pretty close to that. I mean eating
like mature humans. Actually the French too although
when it comes to empty the Americans' pockets they cook
for you literally any crap that they can think of. Most
of such nonsensical dishes look like what mine would if
I puke what I ate 10 minutes earlier. Some of them look
exactly like the Sharon I sometimes pass. And Americans
seem to get mesmerized by such looks. Class! The French
charge you premium prices and you pay for them in true
dollars.

I must give credit where credit is due. Matt was the one to first call
attention to the idiocy of the quote which Bob Cain attributes to
Einstein. After doing a little research on the matter, I discovered
that the quote which Bob Cain cites is something that he has completely
fabricated. Of course, that is nothing new, as virtually everything
that Bob Cain has to say is a complete fabrication. According to Alice
Calaprice, a noted historian on Einstein, in her book "The New Quotable
Einstein" the quote that is attributed to Enistein is "Everything
should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." Suffice it to
say that the latter makes sense to anyone who is involved in
manufacturing a product for the marketplace, and that Bob Cain's
bastardization is both meaningless and idiotic.

I wear that totally false and unsubstantiated defamatory assertion as a
badge of honor....especially given that it comes from Bob Cain who is
clearly both paranoid and delusional, and who has a long-standing
reputation as a pathological liar, a narcissistic sociopath, and a
congenital fuckwit.
